Marshall Electronics AR-DM51-B Overview

The Marshall AR-DM5-1B is a digital audio monitor designed for news vans, remote OB vans, equipment rooms, and more. It sports multiple input types for video and audio, including HDMI and 3G SDI with looping output.

Audio connections are possible via balanced or unbalanced connections. For balanced connections, use the XLR jacks; unbalanced terminations are handled by RCA stereo I/O. You can output audio digitally via XLR jacks carrying the AES/EBU format, or make use of the unbalanced RCA line-level outputs for analog.

In addition to stereo level metering, the unit provides a 2" video monitor, which can offer confidence images of selected HDMI or SDI sources. You'll also note the text overlay that displays the input source, the selected audio channels, and the source video parameter. A 3.5mm headphone jack for private monitoring is found on the front panel, where you'll also find control buttons for left, right, mute, solo, input, and mix down, as well as a volume/mute knob.

On the rear of the device you'll find all your connections. These include an HDMI in, a 9-pin D-sub input for RS-232 serial control, an Ethernet RJ45 port, SDI input and loop out, XLR I/O (both analog and AES/EBU), and RCA jacks.

The AR-DM51-B's 1 RU construction is designed to save space, packing features found in many 2 RU units into a smaller sizer. The device is controllable via Ethernet or RS-232, with a control application downloadable from Marshall's website.

Marshall Electronics AR-DM51-B Reviews

Died After 3 Months

We purchased this to rack in our producer station and monitor feeds. After only 2.5 months it stopped decoding audio. Then after 3 months it stopped decoding video as well. Save yourself the headache and just buy the Blackmagic one. It's not even like we can return it since it's past the 30 day window. Totally useless.

Can I use the RCA out to add active speakers to this unit? Or will those ports only loop RCA in and none of the other sources?
