    Glyph Technologies SR8000ENT reviews

    StudioRAID Enterprise Class 8TB 2-Bay USB 3.1 Gen 1 RAID Array (2 x 4TB) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy setup, built like a tank, very quiet, excellent support When trying to research the available options for a solid RAID enclosure, I couldn't find a lot of reviews about the Glyph StudioRaid, but the few that I found were very good, so I took a leap of faith. So far, so good. Well, actually, there was an immediate problem with the first drive we received (it kept shutting itself off every 15-20 minutes), but the good news is that Glyph's tech support was excellent ? they didn't waste a lot of my time, and a replacement overnighted was to us. Also, the tech was a native English speaker at the company in New York. The replacement was up and running on our Mac server in less than 10 minutes from taking it out of the box, including reformatting the RAID mode from 0 to 1 (very easy) and deciding exactly how to arrange the handsome enclosure on our server shelf. Speaking of the enclosure, it is very solidly constructed. I think these drives are targeted towards the audio/video industries, and they look and feel like they are designed to be treated like heavy-duty road gear. This is not a hot-swappable RAID enclosure (probably for the above reasons), but I have never had an opportunity in 15 years to actually utilize the hot-swap feature of any previous enclosures. If a drive goes out, we have down time every night and can use that time to swap out a drive in the unit. Unlike LaCie RAID units, which I found out the hard way will only work reliably if you use expensive replacement drives specially formatted by LaCie, the Glyph supposedly allows you to insert any replacement internal hard drive as long as the specs match to your other drive(s). That's a big plus. Another plus is the 3-2-1 warranty, which is better than any other I could find. It's 3 years of full hardware, 2 years of Level 1 data recovery, and a full year of overnight replacement. No other warranty came close. And, as I've mentioned, my support experience was excellent. One final note, this unit is amazingly quiet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very well built & excellent value This RAID has a very attractive and sturdy design. Everything about the hardware and construction exudes quality. The cooling fan is quiet, but the 4tb Toshiba drives in this unit are somewhat noisy. During seek operations the drives tend to "talk" a bit and make chattering sounds. I am told that this is normal for this particular drive. It's not a deal breaker for me, but it may be bothersome for some folks. Also, this unit does not have a drive sleep function; it is designed so the drives keep spinning unless they are unmounted from a computer. This prevents issues with disk ejection errors after computer sleep mode at the cost of increased drive wear and energy usage. Despite these quirks, I am very pleased with this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I cant fault it, I just need a bit more In essence, its a simple RAID 1 drive to give you 4 TB of peace of mind. But 4TB will only go so far if you shoot a lot of 4k video. Also, the drives wont be fast enough to edit off off. I pull my content out storage and onto a 250Gb SSD drive when I edit. It works for me on my budget. But I do look forward to the upgrading one day to a system that has larger storage and I can edit from. But such a system I have in mind will cost 10 times what this costs. So for now, I'm happy with what I got.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Box! Heavy duty, quiet, and lots of room! Great price too! Just what I needed to keep a secure backup of my audio production files archived. The files copied faster than any previously owned backup drive. Very easy to change the RAID mode. I'm using it mirrored for extrasecurity.
