Genaray SP-AD120SB overview

  • 1Description

Designed specifically for the SpectroLED-14 Flood light with a beam angle of 120°, this Octa Softbox from Genaray helps you achieve soft and even illumination that can be very flattering for portraits or product shots. The softbox forgoes the need for a speed ring thanks to several slots at the back of the light, which directly accept its aluminum flex rods for simple installation. It features a diameter of 31.5" and depth of 18.5" for a wide coverage that suits it well for use as a main light.

The octagonal shape of this softbox produces rounded catchlights, a feature often desired for fashion or portrait photography, and its textured silver interior results in a more crisp and punchy light quality. An inner baffle and front diffuser, both removable, can be configured for the level of light diffusion desired. Included with the softbox is a carrying case for simplified transport when not in use.

Octa Softbox for SpectroLED-14 Flood Light is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from MUST HAVE accessory First, the SpectroLED 14 Flood is bright! I really like the quality of the light coming out of it as is but I was saying that it would be an even softer light for a person if you used another layer of diffusion. This is where this Octabox comes into play. It is a good size modifier but what makes it great is that it comes with the diffusion cover, an inner diffusion and if you wanted to switch things up for different softening options you can actually still attach the included diffusion layer from the light as well as the Octabox for different diffusion combinations. Even though I know its not possible due to the design of the mounting area on the light, it would be soooo awesome if this modifier required no assembly. Don't get me wrong, the assembly is still easy but I have become spoiled by my photography modifiers that just pop open :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it This is a no-brainer. If you've got the 14" Spectro LED flood then I consider this to be a must have. It attaches easily and produces beautiful, soft light that is extremely even. Use 1 or 2 layers of diffusion to control contrast.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Affordable product that performs very well After installing this softbox on my Genaray SpectroLED-14I, I have mixed thoughts about this product. Once it is set up, it is very impressive (almost incredible), due to the amount of extra light coverage and pleasing, circular diffused light it creates compared with the fixture by itself, or with just a simple sock or other diffusion material attached to the front of the light. It was ideal for portraits from about 6-8 feet away from my subjects. Having multiple diffusion options via the inner baffle & front diffuser "sock" is great because it helps shape the light in different ways while maximizing the output of the LEDs. Catchlights were circular, which I much prefer to square catchlights from square softboxes or square LED fixtures with diffusion sheets attached. Now the negatives: I found it very difficult to assemble because the aluminum flex rods don't always stay in the proper location very well when installing, and as I tried to install the last few rods, the tension that was needed to get them into the proper slots was immense. I had to ask a friend to help, and I felt as though a rod could have popped out and possibly poked one of us in an eye while working. Because of that, I cannot see myself ever taking this apart and putting it back together if I went on location with it. And I would highly recommend wearing safety goggles when putting it together. With that being said, if you take proper precautions when installing it, and if you keep the LED light and softbox in one location all the time, I think it's a great, affordable product that performs very well.
