Saramonic SR-XM1 Overview

If you’re looking to get a better sound out of your DSLR or mirrorless camera, consider the Saramonic SR-XM1, an unobtrusive unidirectional microphone that plugs directly into your device’s 3.5mm TRS jack and secures a crystal clear broadcast sound. With its tiny form factor and integrated swivel for easy positioning, the mic is suitable for a wide variety of applications, including mobile journalism and run-and-gun filming.

The unidirectional polar pattern provides a focused audio capture, greatly diminishing unwanted ambiance while focusing intently on whatever is in front of the mic. The built-in shockmount helps you avoid recording unwanted handling noise. The SR-XM1 is compatible with a wide array of Saramonic gear, including UWMIC9, UWMIC10, and UWMIC15 transmitters as well as the SmartRig+ Series and LavMic.  A foam windscreen is included.

Fits Your Use
The SR-XM1 features an integrated swivel, so it can easily be pointed directly at the sound you want to capture. Its unidirectional pickup pattern provides smooth and even sounding audio, and its built-in shockmount helps you avoid recording unwanted vibration and handling noise. Not only is this microphone ultracompact and lightweight, it also never needs batteries or charging.
Easy to Use
This mic is easy to use: plug it into your equipment, and it's good to go. A built-in swivel allows you to point it at the sound you want to capture.
Compatible with a Wide Selection of Gear
In addition to its uses with Saramonic gear and compatible cameras, the SR-XM1 can also connect to microphone inputs on a wide variety of equipment. You can attach it to portable audio recorders, mixers, and it can even be used as a high-quality microphone for the GoPro Hero5, Hero5 Session, Hero6, and Hero7 action cameras when you use it with the GoPro Pro 3.5mm Mic Adapter (available separately).

Saramonic SR-XM1 Reviews

Buzzes Like Crazy

The Saramonic SR-XM1 produces a constant buzzing sound when used with my Sony RX100 VII camera. While the overall audio sounds much better than the built-in mic on my camera, the constant buzzing sound in all environments (indoor, outdoor) makes the audio unusable. (Other mics, including Rode VideoMicro, Wireless GO, and Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro don't have this buzzing problem in the exact same environments.) While the Saramonic is inexpensive and easy to use, I don't recommend this mic for any RX100 VII cameras.

Broke after an hour

This was not one of my better purchases. I never even got to see how well it worked. The item from simply bending several times like it's made to do broke it on day 1 .

Yes, but you will need either the GoPro Microphone Adapter: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1274435-REG/gopro_aamic_001_3_5mm_mic_adapter.html, or the GoPro Media Mod: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1540202-REG/gopro_ajfmd_001_media_mod_for_hero8.html

How is this product different from Saramonic ...

How is this product different from Saramonic SmartMic ?
Asked by: Abhi
So the Rode Smartlav is a TRRS lavalier mic the can be attached to a shirt or a blouse designed for a smartphones but can easily be converted to work with dslr or camcorder via a trrs to trs adapter as well. And the Saramonic SR-XM1 is a omni mic designed to be attached directly to a consumer camcorder or dslr giving you a further away sound vs Smartlav , so Smartlav to be woren on clothing giving you better sound vs Saramonic to be attached to a camera giving you far away sound . Hope this helps

No, it will not. But the Saramonic SmartMic will work for MacBooks when plugged into the headphone port: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1282307-REG/saramonic_smartmic_flexible_microphone_for_iphone.html

Will this work with a Sony WH-XB900N headphone? Or an Android phone with a headphone jack?
Asked by: Beegee
Well, this microphone is a TRS type. Most Phones, which I'm assuming these are, are TRRS devices. B&H carries several TRS/TRRS adapters which you would need to use to get the two channel recording.

Is this mic Omnidirectional? The official website says it's unidirectional.
Asked by: James
Yes, it is Omnidirectional, which I believe is the same as Unidirectional (Definition of omnidirectional: being in or involving all directions, according to Websters Dictionary). I use with a DJI OSMO 1st Gen and it is better than the OEM Mic supplied with the Original OSMO.
