iOptron AZ Mount Pro GoTo Alt-Az Mount (Head Only)

iOptron's AZ Mount Pro Head combines multiple technologies to produce a mount that requires minimal input from the user while providing full GoTo capabilities. This technology is referred to as "Level and Go" by iOptron because that's about all you need to do. Using its built-in level indicator, you simply level the mount and turn on the power. Utilizing the onboard 32-channel GPS receiver and built-in position and angular detection sensors, the mount calculates its global position as well as the telescope orientation, then automatically slews to an easily identifiable bright object in the night sky. Confirm a bright object is in the center of the view to activate tracking and GoTo functionality.

Included with the mount is the Go2Nova 8407 computer controller. This handheld unit features a 212,000-object database with 60 user-defined customizable objects for your favorite celestial bodies. The easy-to-use, menu-driven system displays on an 8-line, 21-character backlit screen. This fully GoTo-capable unit has automatic tracking for fast-moving near-space objects, such as the Moon and planets, and slower moving deep-sky objects like nebulae and galaxies. For setup or manual use, it has nine slew speeds starting at 1x and topping out at 10°/sec. The Go2Nova controller is powered by the mount to make it easy to use while reducing the unit's weight. For increased functionality, the mount is also equipped with a Wi-Fi module for wireless connectivity to your smartphone, tablet, or computer.

iOptron is offering the AZ Mount Pro GoTo Alt-Az Mount here without a tripod or optical tube assembly (OTA) for users who already have them and are looking to upgrade their mount, but to protect the head during transport and storage an aluminum hard case is included.

iOptron GoTo Alt-Az Reviews

Great Mount for Visual Astronomy

By David
Rated 5 out of 5
Date: 2026-03-29

iOptron AZ mount pro review I have been looking at GOTO mount for a couple of years. My goal was having excellent tracking for visual astronomy and having an unfussy system. This mount met both needs. After about three nights I found the following: For the Bad: The pier top plate of the tri-pier must be removed to install the center post bolt. I found that the hole spacing for the screws retaining the plate are not perfectly spaced. Be sure to mark the orientation of the plate prior to removal. I also lightly filed the holes in the column in order to provide relief to the screw. I used a small round needle file and removed a minimal amount of material. I also found a burr on the inside of the counterweight. This bur would not affect function but I removed it anyway. The vibration dampening feet had a loose fit from the factory. I used a double layer of electric tap wrapped around the OD of the white insert to snug things back up. I am not going to ding the rating for any of these “bad” issues as they are minor and would not prevent the scope from working correctly. The good: This mount points very well. Accuracy depends on how well you level and the stability of the surface you are set up on. My worst result was that the target objects would be within the field of view for 58x and 62 degree apparent field of view. If I nailed leveling and had a very stable surface the object would be in the center of the field of view every time with the same eyepiece. Tracking is also excellent. I had the mount track the sun for a few hours and did not have adjust to center of field of view. This was at 15x with a ~52 degree apparent field of view. This mount is very quiet. To date it is the quietest GOTO mount that I have ever used. It is also very stable. Although I was unable to get iOptron’s own app to work on my phone the mount works perfectly with SkySafari Pro. Having a built in battery is a plus for me as it is less cables and less stuff to haul around. One side note - I found that the counterweights from my Celestron GC-4 fit this mount. They are the ones in white in some of the photos. Summary: For me astronomy is a way of relaxing and enjoying the natural world. The AZ Mount Pro fits in with my style of visual astronomy. It is a very stable mount and it is easy to use. It doesn't get in my way or distract me. If your interest is visual astronomy this is a great system. I highly recommend.
