Sigma 150-600mm f/5.0-6.3 reviews

150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Canon EF and MC-11 Mount Converter/Lens Adapter for Sony E Kit is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must Have Lens The lens is heavy and needs a Benro gimbal to be properly used. So what.....it's a 600MM lens with fantastic sharpness. No lens at this price point is going to have perfect focus, so, it's a 4-rated lens when consider just the autofocus. In manual focus mode on my A7Riii, you benefit from the focus magnifier and the color rendering and sharpness are clearly apparent. For birds in flight....you will need a 100-400 or smaller lens for fast-moving subjects. This lens is a scalpel for certain uses....all I can offer is proof of why this is worth having with a couple of pictures.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value; great lens I have been on the fence for a while about buying into an expensive adapted setup, but when this went on sale, I just had to try it--especially because the MC-11 adapter is bundled. IQ is very good on this lens throughout the zoom range. I am very happy with that. Heavy crops are still usable on my a6000's APS-C sensor--I can't say the same for any of my cheaper Sony zooms (55-210mm, or 16-50mm). Build quality is good; the lens feels solid. Yes, the body of the lens is largely plastic, but it feels well-made and durable. The zoom and focus rings are a bit stiff, so one-handed operation of the lens is very difficult. Although, the zoom lock switch is a very nice touch. I wish the lens were a tad faster and with a shallower depth of field at 150mm, but I do still get pretty nice bokeh from time to time. With how large/heavy this lens is, I just don't think that a casual hobbyist like me would have many occasions where this lens would be used in low light to a point that the slow aperture would be an issue. And, yes, the lens is heavy--or at least its weight is noticeable. Along those lines, I wish that the foot from the collar were a bit longer to help balance the lens on a tripod. When fully-zoomed, the short foot doesn't do enough to help compensate for the the shift in balance of the lens. Despite my nitpicking above, I am generally very pleased with this lens/adapter combo in all areas--that is, except for continuous autofocus. I have not yet had a real opportunity to capture birds in flight other than through windows--which is not ideal. IQ goes way down when light gets filtered through a window. That said, the few fleeting opportunities I have had out in the open with birds, I have had a tough time with the fast-moving ones. It could be the camera. It could be the fact that the lens is adapted. I am not sure. Jury is still out. I will keep testing. Lastly, I should mention the free 105mm protective filter that came with the lens. Bundling a 105mm protective filter for a lens with a 95mm filter thread doesn't make much sense to me, but maybe I'm missing something. It seems that whoever packaged this deal only looked at the filter thread for the Sports version and missed that the Sports and Contemporary versions of this lens have different filter threads. Either way, I have an oversized filter that just sits around waiting for the right lens. It was free, so I can't complain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great wildlife setup for Sony mirrorless cameras This setup works great for Sony A6300 and A6500 cameras - at a very reasonable price. MC-11 + 150-600 Contemporary All AF modes work All Focus Areas work MC-11 + TC-1401 + 150-600 Contemporary AFS and AFC work well Focus Areas: wide, spot, and flexible spot are available In moderate to good light, Focus is quick and accurate; in lower light, AF is marginal, but MF works fine. Attached pictures are for this combination, both using Autofocus. Effective focal length is 1260 mm. With the A6000, autofocus does not work with the TC-1401.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Using with a Sony a6000 I've had this lens a couple of weeks now. I'm using it with my Sony a6000. This is my first big telephoto lens. I purchased it to use for wildlife shots, moon photography, and disc golf photography. So far, it works great. Onecomplaint I have is the autofocus is fairly slow. It works, but you're liable to miss your shot by the time it gets in focus. Also, the zoom ring turns backwards fromany other lens I have previously used and it takes a lot of turning to get zoomed in. It's hard to do when shooting without a tripod. I had previously purchased the Tamron 150-600mm lens and adapter for my camera, but autofocus would not work with it. This works much better and the image quality seems to be sharper with the Sigma lens. Overall, I would recommend this lens and mount combo for anyone using the Sony a6000.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bang for bucks! This lens is very sharp, convenient and solid. It pairs with my Sony a6500 beautifully. I want to photograph birds and at 900mm I can get perfect shots. It handles well and travels well. Half the price of anything close!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value and performance with Sony a6000 I am very pleased with this lens, which is my first super telephoto. Autofocus works well, though in low light or low contrast situations, it can be slow on its own. In those cases, the Manual Focus Override or DMF mode on my camera work fine. I am surprised with the clarity and sharpness, and lack of distortion near the margins of the frame. Balance on my tripod is good; no problems at all. One thing to note is that the lens plus teleconverter are too long to fit into the supplied padded case.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Lens! Have shot it to a limited degree but did some tripod low light and some hand held in better light, shutter speed around 1/800 and sharpness is excellent. iso=500, 600mm,f=6.3, 1/50, @ about 40 ft
