Feiyu A1000 overview

  • 1Description

The Feiyu A1000 3-Axis Motorized Gimbal Stabilizer lets you record smooth, gliding footage with your mirrorless or DSLR camera. The compact design will hold up to 3.7 pounds, and all three motors can rotate a full 360°. The roll motor is offset from the rear of the camera, so you can easily view your camera's display, even if it doesn't flip out from the back of the camera.

Once your camera is balanced, the A1000 will immediately self-calibrate after powering on. If your camera is balanced properly, you can achieve up to 12 hours of operation on a single battery charge. In the unlikely event that you run out of battery, just pop in the other two of the four included batteries, and you'll be ready to shoot while the others charge up.

Should you want to upgrade later, smartphone holders are available separately, as is a dual handgrip for those who prefer two-handed operation. Both the single handgrip (included in this package) and the separate dual handgrip offer full gimbal control with joysticks, function buttons, and trigger buttons.

App Control
The free Feiyu ON app for Android and iOS devices provides remote control, parameter setting, firmware updates, and other functions. The app comes in handy for recording time-lapses, enabling simple programming of movement and shutter release.
Tool-Less Setup
All the balancing and camera-mounting operations can be done with thumbscrews or locking levers. With practice, the gimbal can be set up and ready to use within minutes.
Sony: a7 series, a5000 series, a6000 series, RX100 series

    Feiyu A1000 reviews

A1000 3-Axis Motorized Gimbal Stabilizer is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Excellent made product, Killed by left out functionality This product targets users that have iphone and small-medium size cameras as recording devices. Competes with Zhiyun Crane-M on this segment. One HUGE disappointment is that shutter and recording buttons don't work on smartphones: is really important to have video-picture control from the gimbal and not being force to use phone touch screen. Lower end gimbals from Feiyu have this functionality, Bummer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feiyu A1000 gimbal Used the A1000 with the Panasonic GX85 camera. Balancing the gimbal was easy after watching the setup video but it did require a rebalance of the camera plate after changing lenses.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So close to being amazing I bought this gimbal to fly my A7III along with a few light lenses (28/2, 50/1.8, 10-18/4).  On paper it seemed to fit the bill perfectly.  It was small, light, affordable, and seemed to do everything I needed it to do. First, the good. The gimbal does most everything you would expect.  It handles an A7III with a lighter lens nicely and the footage is smooth.  The gimbal is compact and fits inside a medium sized pelican case easily.  It has a nice grip and good controls.  Battery life is very good and the ergonomics, handling, and balancing of the gimbal are well thought out. So whats the problem?  Well, several problems. 1.  Start/stop video button does NOT work, period.  It does not work with my Sony A7 III or my Canon 5D IV.  I followed the instructions perfectly. All settings are correct.  It doesnt work at all.  I contacted Feiyu support (which wasnt a great experience).  After many emails back and forth they eventually told me my gimbal was bad.  So I returned it and got another copy.  Exact same issue.  It will not start/stop the video on either my Sony A7III or 5D Mark IV.  The feature just doesnt work, period. If that were the only problem, honestly, it would still be a 4-1/2 star product for me.  However thats not the worst of it.  The worst feature of this gimbal is the quick release plate and screw mechanism. The plate is very finicky to get on and off.  It is not a smooth movement and if the plate is even the slightest bit mis-aligned, you wont be able to slide it on.  It was way more difficult than it should be and you will hate your life if you have to remove the camera from the gimbal with any frequency.  It is really that bad. The screw that tightens the plate is on the SIDE of the gimbal, NOT the BOTTOM of the gimbal like the picture on this page shows.  The pictures ARE WRONG.  Ive attached a picture of what the quick release plate screw actually looks like. Why does this matter?  Well most cameras are going to block your hand from getting a good grip on the screw. This means that you wont be able to tighten the plate properly and if you do happen to tighten the plate properly it is almost impossible to loosen because you cannot get a good grip on the screw.  It is a horrible design and unfortunately ruins the entire experience of owning this gimbal for me. If all you intend on doing is using a single lens (and therefore not needed to rebalance) and not removing the camera from the gimbal in the field, the gimbal works OK.  If you swap lenses a lot and have to remove or readjust the camera position much, you will absolutely hate using this gimbal.   Unfortunately for me, I fall in the latter category and will be returning this product.   With a better quick release plate and screw, plus a functioning video control cable, this gimbal would be perfect.  Maybe Feiyu will fix these problems in a future version, but until then I would recommend looking at something else.
