Gitzo Century Traveler Reviews
Great Backpack
This replaced my former backpack, which I passed down to my daughter. It's really very well made and thought out. My challenge is getting used to its design after using the former one for so many years. It's mostly a matter of arranging things differently and re-programing my brain to adopting a new system.
Elegant Camera Bag
This is an excellently constructed and elegant bag. It is on the small side and was too small for my needs. I don't carry a lot of camera gear but I do need to have room for other day travel items such as a light jacket, e-reader and travel documents. I could fit a Fuji 100-400 zoom and an XT-4 body with a 16-80 zoom attached without any issues. There was plenty of room for and extra battery and filters. There just wasn't enough room for other items that I typically carry on a plan and I would have liked a second zippered compartment for documents and such. This is a five star bag if it works for you. It just wasn't quite right for me.
Fantastic materials & build quality
The Gitzo Century Traveler Camera Backpack is constructed using fantastically high quality materials and with a wonderful attention to detail. A perfect travel companion for my Gitzo tripod and camera gear. I'll be taking it to Italy, Greece, Ireland, and England in a couple months. I'm very much looking forward to exploring with this excellent upgrade to my travel gear!
Too tight for Canon R5
I have a Gitzo messenger bag that I love, it holds my R5, 14-35 and 70-200 lenses and it is easy to access and replace the lenses. I found the opposite true with this Gitzo backpack. Getting all of the gear in and out of the bag was fussy, mostly because the slots were too tight, and the suggested placement of the R5 with only the 50MM 1.8 mounted, still resulted in a tight fit. To me this is not a backpack to work out of. If I had a smaller profile camera, like the Fuji or Sony, it might work well, but the description said DSLR and three lenses. It was not brand specific. Too bad. The quality of the backpack is superb. It just doesn't fit my gear properly.
Frequent Traveler Camera Bag
This is my go to camera bag whenever I travel. It can squeeze my DSLR with my walkaround zoom attached plus a 70-200mm and a 105mm. My ThinkPad Carbon X1 fits in the laptop compartment with room to spare so I'm sure other 14-inch or maybe even 15-inch laptops will, too. Other accessories like speedlight, a vertical grip, battery charger, cables, cleaning kit, etc. go into the top compartment. There's also enough pockets for batteries and other slim items. The biggest plus for me is the strap that slips over the handle of my four-wheel rollaboard so I can walk around the airport and even down the aircraft aisle with ease. It also fits nicely underneath the seat in front of you as long as you don't have a tripod strapped to it, and the top handle makes it easy to pull out when it is time to deplane. I got this bag free with my Gitzo tripod purchase when they had the promo for it. Would I pay the premium price for this bag? Absolutely!
Outstanding backpack!
Well worth the money, this bag is stylish and functional. Definitely not for the photographer with large amounts of gear or larger cameras, but for my needs it's perfect.
Well-made solid functional camera backpack.
Good well-made solid well thought out camera backpack. Dual-purpose, with limited number of elements in the padded lower compartment with the upper compartment more dedicated to clothing or other incidentals specific to your outing/trip, although additional lenses etc could be carried in the upper area with some sort of additional padding or cases/sleeves. I like the shape and contour although I think some may find it a little boxy. Straps are comfortable and sliding off one strap allowing it to swing forward to access the camera compartment works well and is ambidextrous. I like the small details such as the locking tabs for the zippers of the camera side compartments and appreciate the numerous small pockets within the front of the upper compartment. The tripod carrier seems well thought out and functional. Small criticism would be the size of the top handle, seems a little narrow and although the stitching appears robust I would be hesitant about over utilizing it and will likely lift the bag from the shoulder straps rather than the top carry handle.
Classy compact bag
Not a large bag; I'd guess the interior volume is 22 or 23L. Divided into upper and lower compartments, so your longest lens has to fit across the width. Works fine for me because I'm using a Fuji X-T4 and the APS-C lenses tend to be a bit smaller. Fits my 200mm F2 with teleconverter & camera attached; that's my biggest rig. Nice-looking luggage intended for air & hotel type travel, not back-country hiking. Lots of useful exterior access pockets for your laptop, passport, and boarding pass. I'm very happy with it.
