question
Thanks for your input. I need to keep shopping, since two of these are out of my price range. Can someone recommend a comparable set for less than $300/set?
A great alternative in similar size and price range would be the Senal ASM-3 which ship as a pair. Another quality option in your price range, the Tannoy Reveal 402. These ship as individual units and will fit your budget.

Current model on Genelec site is 8010A - what is the difference between this 8010 and 8010A?
But Genelec has 8020D, 8030C, 8040B which are also active - so that is not consistent with "A" = Active?

question
Do I need two of these when correcting sound recorded in stereo mode? It's voice only from a lapel mic or from the camcorder.
You will need two monitors to hear the separation between left and right channels of a stereo recording. For the mono recording you are describing, one monitor will suffice.
