Yamaha R-N303 Overview

  • 1Description

Enjoy music from a variety of sources with the Yamaha R-N303 Stereo Network Receiver. This 2-channel receiver produces up to 100W of RMS power per channel at 8 Ohms and is equipped with A and B speaker terminals. Built-in AirPlay and Bluetooth allow you to wirelessly stream music from compatible audio sources such as computers, smartphones, and tablets. On-board Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity gives you the ability to stream music from Internet radio sources and use DLNA technology to share content with compatible networked devices. Furthermore, the free MusicCast app allows you to control the receiver from your favorite smart device.

In addition to the receiver's aforementioned wireless connectivity, the R-N303 has a coaxial, optical, three stereo RCA, and a phono input for connecting different types of audio sources. Its 1/4" headphone output enables private listening when connecting headphones. This receiver's integrated AM and FM tuners allow you to enjoy free over-the-air content.

Note: Access to certain Internet-based content may require a subscription to a service.

High-Power Amp
The R-N303 utilizes a high-power amp featuring a single push-pull and discrete configuration, delivering a maximum output of 140W per channel at 8 Ohms. Its low-impedance design helps maximize the lengths of the audio signal paths, while placing the power supply unit near the amp unit to help reduce energy loss, for enhanced sound reproduction with most speakers.
Low-Noise Circuitry Design
The R-N303 features circuitry designed to prioritize sound quality by dividing the analog and digital sections into separate blocks for low noise and an augmented S/N ratio.
Engineered for High Resolution
The R-N303 is compatible with high-resolution sound sources, such as DSD 5.6 MHz native and AIFF, WAV, FLAC 192 kHz/24-bit, as well as Apple Lossless 96 kHz/24-bit files. It uses a Burr-Brown 192 kHz/24-bit DAC to deliver enhanced S/N performance.
Low-Jitter Network Module
The network module contains a clock designed for high-precision, low-jitter performance to help improve the reproduction of high-resolution sound sources. Pure audio clock generation without an added jitter from the clock generator helps lower the creation of jitter noise when playing network and Bluetooth sources for further S/N enhancement.
Enjoy All Your Music Sources
The R-N303 lets you enjoy music from CD players and turntables, and it can play music you have stored on your computer or NAS (network-attached storage). You can also play music wirelessly from smartphones or tablets using Bluetooth or AirPlay, as well as a variety of music from streaming services and AM/FM radio.
MusicCast Expands Entertainment Possibilities
MusicCast can stream digital music content from your smartphone, PC, or NAS to other MusicCast devices in your home using your existing network. It can also share the music from external devices such as a CD player or TV connected to the R-N303. Audio content from Bluetooth-connected smartphones or tablets can also be streamed to MusicCast devices in multiple rooms.
Digital Audio Input for TV or Blu-ray Players
The R-N303 is equipped for digital audio with both optical and coaxial inputs. The optical is for receiving audio from a display, and the coaxial is for receiving audio from a Blu-ray player. The audio stays in the digital domain, helping to provide pure dynamic sound for all your entertainment sources.
Fingertip Control
Tap, swipe, and control your music with the free MusicCast app, which can also control other optional MusicCast devices.
Enjoy playback of your vinyl records by plugging your turntable into the phono input of the R-N303.

    Yamaha R-N303 Reviews

R-N303 Stereo Network Receiver is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic!! Stereo Fun!!!!!!!! I’m a Huge fan Of Yamaha Now. I have several models of their receivers and couldn’t be Happier. If you want to use Bluetooth you need to connect with an Ethernet cable because the antenna on the receiver can’t do both simultaneously. Fantastic Sounding Amplifier. I use it to Biamp my speakers and use a subwoofer with speaker level inputs… I run optical from a SACD player which is Fantastic. The processor in this thing is Top Shelf. The two apps available are both Fantastic. If I had unlimited funds I would get the model up with Subwoofer out and parametric EQ And USB input but it is quite a bit more money and this Sounds Great!!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Convenient for everyday use It's my first receiver. I use it to pair Pioneer BS 22. I cannot compare the performance since this is my first receiver in life. Just want to say something on its wireless connectivity. It supports Apple airplay so I can play music or movies on youtube through the receiver. Also, with the app Musicast from Yamaha, I can turn on/off the receiver and select different mode, like airplay, radio, bluetooth etc, on the phone through the app. When connecting with pioneer bs 22, I need to adjust the volume to about 45 or above to get good quality. With lower volume, the sound quality is not good since low, mid and high frequencies mixed together. Sound quality is good on playing pure piano, guitar, vocal voices. Acceptable on concerto or symphony. Also, good on pop. I just want some stereo system that can do the above and it does the job! BTW, the reason I choose this receiver rather than Onkyo 8020, which is half price cheaper, is because the convenience. Onkyo 8020 doesn't support Airplay and Bluetooth. You may need to buy a cable to connect your phone to the receiver. That means, you need to sit close to the receiver. Both of the two have Phono input. For yamaha, with phono input, you may adjust the volume even more to around 55 to get good sound quality. (the max volume is 89) In sum, I like it for its convenience and satisfied sound quality with pioneer bs 22 as my first stereo system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from nothing lasts forever My ancient Technics SA-303 died.? Its volume potentiometer wore thru and open circuited.? Not an easy fix.? Proprietary parts etc.? This replaced it and it is perfectly adequate.? The specs are short a few dB here and there compared to the Technics but the sound is just as good.? The syling is sure to please some hip 20 something.? The ergonomics are so-so.? That is, the man-machine interface is with a remote.? In that sense controls are passe and menus are here to stay.? Oh well, its the sound that counts.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Mediocre Product I'd been using a 15 year old Pioneer receiver that went bad.? I read reviews on the Yamaha receiver and it appeared to be a good receiver.? It is mediocre at best.? My 15 year old Pioneer receiver produces better sound and has greater features.? Wish I hadn't bought this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice balance I bought this as part of downsizing while moving, and I am happy with the purchase. I am able to stream internet radio directly through the receiver and Bluetooth from a tablet. These audio sources probably do not warrant a very high-end receiver. I am not able to receive all of the internet stations I get on other devices using other software, but I am satisfied with the opera stations available. I no longer have room for surround speakers, so a simple stereo meets my needs. I like using my tablet and the MusicCast application to control the receiver from anywhere in my house. Apparently, the Alexa skill does not work well with it, and I have not tried it. The receiver is not too large, and fits inside a 16-inch deep sideboard. I have noticed that the receiver runs fairly cool, and does not seem to overheat when enclosed in the sideboard. I am glad to be able to play my CD and vinyl collections. I am disappointed that the receiver has no sub-woofer output. I do not use the system for television audio.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yamaha quality After my previous, years old Yamaha receiver died I purchased this one.? Same great sound and simple controls.? Has connection for phono! I really like the Bluetooth capability.? Glad it has wifi too but haven't used it yet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from KISS Principle Operation Could use a  5-band graphic equalizer rather than tone controls if you have older speakers.  Maybe only a pre-amp OUT to a stand-alone EQ with an IN to the amp section.  Most controls are available on the remote.
