Moto Moto X (4th Gen) overview

  • 1Description

Experience the next generation of dynamic handheld performance with the unlocked fourth-generation Moto X4 XT1900-1 32GB Smartphone in Super Black. The IP68 water- and dust-resistant glass and metal Moto X4 is powered by a 2.2 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor and 3GB of RAM. It comes equipped with 32GB of storage and includes a microSD slot for expansion. The phone features a reversible USB Type-C interface for charging and data transfer and a front-mounted fingerprint reader.

The Moto X4 is equipped with a 5.2" IPS LCD display with 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution. For your photo and video needs, the Moto X4 features two rear-facing cameras, one 12MP f/2.0 for standard shots and one 8MP f/2.2 with an ultra-wide 120° lens. In low-light conditions, color-correlated temperature dual-LED flash and auto HDR improve camera performance. A front-facing 16MP wide-angle camera with an f/2.0 aperture and its own LED flash helps you take selfies in all conditions. For even better low-light performance, the front camera reduces its resolution to 4MP, enabling pixels to combine for improved light capture.

The Moto X4 is well-equipped for wireless communication. It features Bluetooth 5.0 technology for pairing with other Bluetooth-enabled devices, and 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi for high-speed Internet connectivity. GPS with GLONASS is also on-board for using compatible location services and applications. The built-in Alexa assistant lets you ask questions, give commands control connected appliances, and more. The X's 3000mAh battery is designed to provide "All Day" mixed usage on a full charge, and thanks to TurboPower technology, it can provide up to six hours of power from only 15 minutes of charging using the included charger.

Note: The XT1900-1 is the North American variant of the Moto X4. It will run on any GSM network that uses cell frequencies supported by the device, including AT&T and T-Mobile. It will also work with certain CDMA carriers, such as Verizon and Sprint. Current Verizon SIM cards can be transferred to the new device, though the carrier may limit the purchase of new SIM cards for unlocked phones. Since this device is unlocked, functionality for certain carrier-specific features cannot be guaranteed. Please confirm with your carrier that it supports the XT1900-1 4th-generation Moto X4 before purchasing.

GSM + CDMA / 4G LTE Wireless Connectivity
This phone is designed to work on select GSM and CDMA networks and is 4G LTE capable. LTE is an advanced cellular network data protocol capable of data speeds so fast that they compete with wired broadband Internet providers. With an LTE connection, this phone should have no problem streaming HD video, downloading apps, uploading photos, or anything else that requires a high-speed data connection. The phone is also backwards compatible with 3G and 2G data for instances when you can't get LTE. In addition to cellular wireless, this phone also features Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.
North American Variant / US Compatible LTE
The XT1900-1 is a US variant of the Moto X4. The XT1900-1's LTE radio is tuned to frequencies that are most often used in the United States and North America. It can also be used in other parts of the world; however, LTE access may be limited or unsupported, depending on the network. To ensure this phone will work with your carrier please check to make sure the frequencies your carrier uses are supported by this phone. The full list of compatible carrier frequencies can be found here, the frequencies this phone supports can be found in the product specs.

Android 7.1 Nougat
The Android operating system integrates heavily with Google's services. It's a personalized and customizable OS, allowing you to add your favorite apps or widgets to your homescreen. You can even download new themes using the Google Play Store, which offers access to more than one million apps, games, books, music, movies, and more. Android 7.1 Nougat adds major productivity capabilities to the operating system in the form of a multi-window view, which allows for two apps to be placed onscreen at a time. An improved notification system allows you to interact with texts and emails right from your notification pane - without needing to open the app. Other features include file-based encryption, a Data Saver mode, the ability to scale text and icons to better suit your phone's screen, and more.

Moto Moto X (4th Gen) reviews

X (4th Gen.) XT1900-1 32GB Smartphone (Unlocked, Super Black) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Generally good budget phone with an unusual flaw I had this phone for a few days before I had to send it back. It was doing what it suppose to do until I couldn't properly connect it to my google mesh wifi. It's a known problem which lenovo Engineers (capital E as typed by moto agent Ella) can't resolve for a few months already. Some people made comments that have the same problem with connecting to motorola(!) modem/router too. Obviously it was a deal breaker for me as I wouldn't want to redo my whole network just because this phone won't work on it. All my other numerous devices work just fine there. Got a different phone (oneplus 5) and it's connecting with no problems.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid performance with all the right features Upgraded to the X4 due to frustrations with my ASUS ZenFone Zoom's dismal battery life. That will be my last ASUS phone for sure. The Moto is light years better than the ZenFone in every way. I had a Sony prior and Samsung S5 prior to that. With the X4, everything just works seamless with that almost stock android experience. The few features Moto added just further heightens the already great experience unlike other brands. I'm now a big Moto fan. Build quality is amazing and I personally think its a beautiful phone with great proportions and a glass back that is simply elegant. The ability to pair and use 4 bluetooth speakers/headphones simultaneously is amazing. The IPS screen is bright and vibrant and is as good as any flagship OLED in real world use. LTE performance is also pretty spectacular with webpages and videos loading quicker than I've ever experienced with any phone. The IP68 rating is the icing on the cake..... you don't have to worry about the environment you use it in. The only thing average about the X4 is the camera performance... a bit laggy and the processing too intrusive taking away some detail and low light shots are noisy. Video performance is good except in low light where noise and compression artifacts creep in. Auto focus was also poor in low light conditions. On a good note, the wide angle capability is super useful and suits my photography style. Other than the camera gripes, the X4 is a solid phone with no real short falls. Performance is solid with no hints of lagginess. Wireless performance including LTE is the best I've experienced in any phone. Battery life is also above average and it reaches full charge in about 2 hours from being fully drained. It simply just works and works great in a quiet reliable kind of way. Also priced right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flagship phone without the cost I love my Moto X4. It is replacing my 3 year old Moto X (gen 2) and I think it is a worthy successor. It has premium feel and features tempered by practicality and affordability. The battery life has been great. I'm a heavy user and still make it through most days without worry. On light usage I might be able to stretch to a day and a half. Phone calls are clear with good audio quality. I love the Moto actions that let me launch the camera or turn on the flashlight quickly and missed them when I had to use a loaner phone. I also love that it is pure Android. The few Moto add-ins are nice and if you don't like them turn them off and forget them. I've also been having fun using the NFC for paying at stores. I like that it doesn't use the Moto Mods add-ons (although the battery would be nice, more battery is always nice). Along with wireless charging I think these features are something you pay extra for that for most people aren't worth the cost. If you are really interested in hardcore mobile gaming then getting a higher end processor may be a better option, but for daily use this processor is fine and will probably work well for occasional gaming. Dislikes - The glass back, it is slippery and I worry about breaking it (a cheap case has resolved this). I would prefer smaller bezels but this is not a deal breaker.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Compatibility and Activation on Verizon - Needs Case This is the first unlocked phone I've purchased. I was a bit hesitant to order one instead of getting one from verizon. Verizon says they are more open to unlocked phones but their customer service does not support it. I have read that some people had problems getting SIMC cards from Verizon. I took the route that seemed to work the most often, and simply removed it from my existing phone. The new Moto x4 seems to work fine. I've made and received a couple calls. I will agree with many reviewers, this phone is very slick. You'll probably want some sort of case if not for fall protection just to allow a better grip. I have ordered one but not from this site. With even some attempt at a better grip, I'd probably give this phone a 5 at this time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saying a BIG Hello to Moto with x4 Love the Moto Actions, seeing my messages, missed calls, weather without unlocking my phone. Love Motorola products, have this, the headset and at home the surfboard modem. Its a good looking multi-talented phone with the convenience of Alexa built right in,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from solid functional phone So far I like this phone. It replaced my much abused Moto G3 which also had an IP68 rating, a must for me as I work in damp and dirty conditions. The X4 has been working smoothly without any hitches so far. Not too much bloatware, mostly just native google stuff. I haven't seen any ads popping up yet. The camera is Ok so far and is sufficient for my needs which are mostly documentation. I can't seem to write notes over photos, which was a feature I used a lot in other phones. Battery life is adequate, but i am not a heavy user either. It does have a nice solid feel and I think the glass back dissipates heat better, but it is glass and that worries me a bit with a higher risk of breakage. The phone is as slippery as a wet fish and I have ordered a case, which will of course add some bulk. The camera lens does protrude a fair bit and will make contact with any surface that you put the phone on. Again a case is required for protection. I had to search hard for a case that had port covers. The power port is usually the weak spot for the conditions that I work in. I would have preferred a 64GB version, too bad they don't offer it. The operating system and loaded apps takes up half of the memory. I looked at a lot of other IP68 phones and this one seemed to suit my needs. The only real contender was the Sony XZ series, particularly the compact version. Samsung specs are good, but I have three dead S series phones in my recycling already.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Full Function I found it amazing how it works. At first, it was a little complicated for me the middle button without the arrows next to it, but when you start using it a lot you get comfortablewith it. I highly recommend Motorola.
