The spreader itself is fine. It works well keeping the legs apart and steady. The problem with the spreader is the rubber connector that attach the spreader to the tripod legs with a pin. Constant flexing of the rubber weakens it and the rubber breaks, forcing you to buy another complete spreader for $60 - I've had to buy two so far. While the rubber does offer a somewhat more flexible connection a stronger mechanical connection would work better and be less subject to weakening through repeated flexing.

You will have use a tool that can push the silver pin out of the rubber connection boot.
