I own a M7 Sony RX100 camera. It never was evident that cabling could be an issue . I bought one of these and see the possibility of damage without it . Give it a try .

...but, I found it useful and well made. I thought I was getting one that had a smaller screw to attach to the side of my Sony A III...

The Sony Cable Protector for Sony DSC-RX0M2, DSC-RX100M7 & DSC-RX100M7G will work with various cages with 1/4"-20 female mounts meant for the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX0 II Digital Camera and DSC-RX100 VII cameras.
