PreSonus SW5E Overview

The PreSonus SW5E is a rugged AVB network switch, designed to connect digital audio devices over long distances using CAT5e or CAT6 Ethernet cable. The device provides Power over Ethernet (PoE) and allows for the routing of audio anywhere on the network with extremely low latency. The AVB protocol provides a high-precision clock that significantly reduces harmonic distortion and phasing, ensuring the audio remains clean and clear.

PoE enables network cables to carry electrical power to compatible devices, delivering both network data, such as digital audio, and electrical power from a single cable. Four of the five ports on the SW5E provide PoE, with the fifth port being used for networking to additional switches to create a larger network. The heavy-duty metal enclosure is designed to withstand the rigors of on-the-road wear and tear and can be rack-mounted using an optional rack tray. The PreSonus SW5E ships with a standard IEC power cord.

PreSonus SW5E Reviews

Simplifies IEM set up with Earmix

I bought this for the IEM set up at my church, and this simplifies it so much. First, it's PoE so there is no need to connect power for each Earmix and also no need for daisy chain either. And this unit feels very sturdy. Easy setup and work flawlessly.

It does what it says, but watch out for cable types.

This switch works, but I find it needs frequent resetting in order to maintain an audio connection between our RM32AI and CS18AI. It's very picky about cables too. It seems that not all CAT6 cables will work. It gets the job done but there is probably a more stable product out there.

I use one of these for our (AVB) audio network, but would it work for an NDI network (Using a separate network)? I'm looking for a POE switch with an ethercon connector for a portable setup (running only 2 Cat6 (or6a) ethernet cables from FOH to stage), one for NDI video and one for AVB audio. (AVB video not an option)

The PreSonus SW5E 5-Port AVB Switch with PoE appears to only offer compatibility with AVB products and does not specify compatibility for use with other network protocols such as NDI.
