Key Features
- F-Mount Lens/FX Format
- Aperture Range: f/2 to f/22
- One Double-Sided Aspherical Element
- Ultra-High Refractive Index Glass
Featuring a slender profile and a slightly wider-than-normal focal length, the silver-rimmed Ultron 40mm f/2 SL IIS Aspherical from Voigtlander is a versatile prime well-suited to everyday shooting. The double Gauss optical design employs a single aspherical element, as well as ultra-high refractive index glass, to produce well-controlled, sharp imagery void of spherical aberrations. Its slightly wide focal length pairs with the bright f/2 maximum aperture to benefit making shallow depth of field imagery as well as working in low-light conditions. The smooth manual focus operation also contributes to controlling focus position, and both depth of field and focus distance scales are featured on the metal lens barrel to aid in pre-focusing or setting hyperfocal distance. This lens' physical design also features a scalloped focus ring to recall classic lens designs of the 1960s as well as afford more secure handling during use. Mixing the classic-inspired design with contemporary usage, the lens also sports an AI-S type CPU to permit in-camera adjustment of the aperture setting for faster, more intuitive exposure control.

Is the lens IF (internal focusing), i.e. does it retain a fixed size as one focuses?
The Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f/2 SL IIS Aspherical Lens for Nikon F is not an internally-focusing lens. The lens focuses (or screws out) on its helix threads and will change in length as you rotate the focusing ring from infinity to its minimum focus distance.

Is the “Silver Rim” on this lens just a painted silver, or actual chrome?
It’s not chrome it’s like a matted silver not painted. It’s a beautiful lens optically, the focus is butter smooth, one of my most used on my former dslr’s and my Nikon Z with an adaptor. I also use it on my Nikon f100 and Nikon f3. That lens the Nikon 105 f2.5 ai-s and Nikon 28mm ai-s are some of my most used lenses if I’m looking for character. I hope this answers your question.

Do you think it is sharper than the MC 40 1.4? Anyone using it on a7serie? I sold a mc40 1.4 and Im Missing it :( , come to buy it again and I found this one that will do an excellent companion to my 58 1.4!! :). Thanks
According to people reporting, it appears that sharpness is comparable with the Nokton better in the center and the Ultron better on the edges. You will get a slightly shallower depth of field with the Nokton at f/1.4 vs the Ultron's f/2.0. The Nokton is slightly warmer and the Ultron slightly cooler. Personally, I would want that f/1.4 for low light situations. It can always be stopped down to f/2.0.

Does the lens come with a case? If not, which third-party case/pouch would be an ideal match?
No, it does not come with a case. This lens is comparable in size to a Nikon 50mm f1.8, or basically any of the normal or somewhat wide Nikon prime lenses. It's a bit smaller than the Nikon 50 but not much. Hope that helps.

Does it come with 52-39mm Adapter, 39mm close-up, and 39mm cap? It should be included in the original box, please confirm.
This version does not require the close-up adapter, it focuses all the way down to 25cm/10", covering a view of 15cm/6" full frame on the long side.

Aside from the obvious difference in size and focal length, how does this lens compare in image quality to the Zeiss ZF.2 35mm f/2 Distagon
There is very little difference in the focal length but the Zeiss lens has better optical quality in my opinion. However the Voigtlander is much smaller in size so if you are looking to keep your camera small and discrete, the 40mm is a better option. Both lenses have their positive points.
