RED DIGITAL CINEMA EPIC-W Start-Up Kit with Aluminum EF Mount, Media, Reader, Batteries & Charger

With the EPIC-W BRAIN, RED brings the EPIC name back to the forefront, featuring their HELIUM 8K Super 35 sensor. While other RED cameras use sensors larger than Super 35, the HELIUM is unique in that it allows for high-resolution 8K recording while using classic cinema lenses designed for the Super 35 film format. While 8K exhibition is not mainstream, the extra recorded resolution is helpful for VFX artists and for future-proofing your productions for a time when 8K is standardized.

REDCODE RAW is the format of choice for the EPIC-W. RED's versatile raw codec uses wavelet compression to reduce data rates while maintaining a visually lossless image rendering. This efficient codec can be edited on many available NLE software programs without transcoding, though if you prefer a proxy workflow, ProRes or DNx files can be recorded simultaneously to the MINI-MAG media.

Lowering the recording resolution allows the sensor to capture higher frame rates for dramatic slow-motion footage. The EPIC-W uses sensor windowing to record slow motion in lower resolutions, requiring wider lenses to compensate for the additional crop.

All of the EPIC-W's power is enclosed in a relatively small body comprised of magnesium and aluminum. The EPIC-W's size, or lack thereof, makes it very versatile. From studio tripod configuration to handheld and gimbal, drone, or vehicle mounted situations, the EPIC-W can handle it all, providing 8K raw files that punch above the camera's physical size.

Designed for cable-free mounting to select DSMC2 RED cameras, the RED DIGITAL CINEMA Touch 4.7" LCD features 1280 x 720 resolution. The design of the LCD provides good off-axis viewing up to 160°, with 80° left, right, up, or down so you don't have to be directly aligned with the viewfinder to see an optimal image. The LCD features multi-touch control, with hard navigation buttons on the side.

With a brightness level of 400 cd/m² and contrast ration of 1000:1 providing a clear image, the RED Touch LCD mounts directly to your camera without any cables needed between the LCD and your camera. It can mount directly onto DSMC2 cameras including the WEAPON 8K S35, WEAPON 6K, EPIC/SCARLET-W, EPIC/SCARLET M-X, EPIC/SCARLET DRAGON, and the RED RAVEN. A built-in mirror and image flip allow for monitoring while upside down for special applications.

The RED DSMC2 V-Lock Battery Module mounts securely to your DSMC2 BRAIN or Expander module, enabling you to power your camera with a RED BRICK or other V-Mount battery. The battery module is made from aluminum, providing a balance between strength and weight, and interfaces with the 13-pin pogo connector to deliver power without using battery cables.

It features a protected release button that helps prevent accidental release of the battery, which could be devastating to your footage if it happened during a shot. The module incorporates a 3A D-Tap port that you can use to power camera accessories.

Slimmer than its predecessor, the XPL90, the Core SWX Nano V-Mount Battery is lightweight, reliable, and powerful. While the form-factor may be small, the Nano-series batteries can support up to 8-amp draws at 14.8V. The slim enclosure is great for gimbal balancing, as the camera it's mounted to can use the extra space for fore/aft movement. In classic Core SWX fashion, the exterior of the battery has a rubberized feel for a sure grip. Accessories can be connected to both the USB and D-tap power outputs, allowing the Nano-series batteries to act as a power hub for your entire rig, not just your camera. With the 98Wh capacity, a 25-watt load can be sustained for approximately 3.5 hours. Real-time capacity can be checked using the 4-LED gauge on the side of the casing. This V-mount model communicates using the standard SMBUS protocol (found on most cameras that have a native V-mount, including RED DSMC2 cameras), sending battery metrics that can be monitored from the camera itself.

Charge your V-Mount batteries while on-the-go with the Core SWX X2S 2-Bay Vertical V-Mount Battery Charger. Taking advantage of the same technology built into the larger fleet chargers, this slim charger can charge a single battery at a 3-amp rate or batteries in both bays simultaneously at 2 amps. Since it sits vertically with two batteries mounted, the X2S takes up less space than traditional chargers. With its 4-pin XLR output, the X2S also does double duty as a 90W power supply for cameras, lights, or other equipment that can draw from a 4-pin XLR.

This aluminum RED Digital Cinema DSMC Canon Mount attaches to your DSMC or DSMC2 camera brain providing an EF/EF-S compatible lens port for your camera. Dual locking rings secure your lens in the mount, minimizing play. The mount features captive screws, so you don't have to worry about accidentally dropping a screw into the sensor cavity. The mount supports electronic communication between the lens and the camera, although not all functions may be supported. RED DSMC mounts are designed to be swapped without requiring a backfocus adjustment.

This RED DIGITAL CINEMA RED MINI-MAG has a capacity of 120GB, is compatible with most RED cameras (may require SSD module), and on select cameras can attain write speeds as high as 225 MB/s. The RED MINI-MAG can support simultaneous R3D and Apple ProRes recording, when used with DSMC2 camera systems.

Designed with the sole purpose of offloading data from your RED MINI-MAG SSD media, the RED STATION RED MINI-MAG supports USB 3.1 protocols and allows you to transfer files to your computer at up to 10 Gbps. Sleek, compact, and durable, the unit takes up little desktop room and its small size provides more possibilities for fitting it into cases. It includes one each of a USB Type-C, and a USB Type-C to Type-A cable.

The RED SIDEWINDER Multi-Tool from RED DIGITAL CINEMA is a great workbench companion for your DSMC and DSMC2 gear. The 11 different drivers can be opened to adjust the screws found throughout the modular DSMC and DSMC2 camera systems. Threaded holes on the sides of the multi-tool can hold non-captive screws safely, so they don't get lost while you make adjustments to your camera or add/remove camera modules. To ensure a long life, the nickel-plated, high-carbon steel alloy driver keys are secured to a heat-resistant polymer composite that should survive many a production.

The RED Digital Cinema RED WORK MAT is a portable flexible non-slip surface for building your camera or for use on a DIT cart. It provides a clean surface to work on and at 18 x 24", it is large enough for you to place your camera's components on during set up or break down. When you are done, the mat is flexible enough that you can just roll it up for storage.
