Can these monitors be paired with a non-Genelec subwoofer without trouble?
They can be paired with any sub, even a non-Genelec. The 7040 would be the recommended sub but I suggest using a sub that has a built in crossover. You want to ensure you're using a crossover that high passes the 8020s and not just applies a low pass filter to the subwoofer. This will have a cleaner response in the room. With that in mind, make sure you're connecting the 8020s to the sub, rather than connecting all 3 to a monitor controller, unless the monitor controller has a crossover built in

Can the ISS be disabled? I see that there's a DIP ...
Can the ISS be disabled? I see that there's a DIP switch for "ISS" on the back, so I assume that's for enabling/disabling ISS, but I'd like confirmation. ISS is not a feature I need or want.

An ‘ISS Disable’ switch is located on each product’s back plate next to the other room response controls. First, when the mains power switch of the loudspeaker is set to “ON”, the ISS™ auto-start function (low-power sleep state on/off) of the loudspeaker is active.
If this function is not desired, the ISS™ function can be disabled by setting the “ISS Disable” switch on the back panel to “ON” position. In this mode, the monitor is only powered on and off using the mains power switch. I hope this answers your question. Thanks.
