ASUS ZenBook 3 overview

  • 1Description
Found in: Work Laptops

The 14" ZenBook 3 UX430UA Notebook from ASUS is a thin, lightweight, and compact system designed for users seeking a balance between portability and screen size. It features a 14" 1920 x 1080 Full HD display, driven by integrated Intel UHD graphics, within a 13" chassis thanks to its ultra-slim bezels. Performance-wise, it's powered by a 1.8 GHz Intel Core i7-8550U quad-core processor, 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM, and a 512GB solid-state drive. For more space, attach external storage solutions using its multiple USB ports as well as its media card reader.

Connect to the Internet via 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and pair compatible wireless peripherals using Bluetooth 4.1 technology to free up USB ports for more important devices. Other integrated features include a micro HDMI port, an HD webcam, a fingerprint reader, a backlit keyboard, microphones, speakers, and a 3.5mm mic/headphone jack. The operating system installed is Windows 10 Home (64-Bit).

13" Chassis & NanoEdge Display
The ZenBook 3 UX430 features a 14" display in a compact 13" chassis with minimal bezels. It also has an ultra-wide 100% sRGB color gamut for accurate and vivid colors, as well as 178° viewing angles for easier screen sharing. Moreover, it measures only 0.62" thick and weighs in at just 2.9 pounds, so you can easily take it wherever life goes.
Fingerprint Sensor
Using the built-in fingerprint sensor in the touchpad and Windows Hello, you'll be able to log into your system without a password.
Keyboard & Touchpad
The ZenBook 3 UX430 is equipped with a notebook-sized keyboard and built-in backlighting so you'll be able to type even in dimly lit environments. It has a 1.4mm key travel distance optimized for a comfortable feel, and a touchpad with palm rejection technology and multi-finger gesture and handwriting support.
SonicMaster Audio
Created by the Asus Golden Ear team and Harman Kardon, ASUS SonicMaster audio technology delivers loud and accurate sounds without distortion for a more enjoyable listening experience.

Windows 10 Home

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

    ASUS ZenBook 3 reviews

    14" ZenBook 3 UX430UA Notebook is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Aced it ASUS This thing is the gorilla in the buggie cage. Should be future proof with no need to upgrade hardware to prolong life. Just hope the battery will still be available. Can't fault it in any way. Fast, light ,good looking, seems tough, but I won't be testing that hopefully. Good life on the battery. Like it after first day, now I love it. It's screen is big enough to make it your go to PC and if you want a bigger screen or keyboard it connects easily. Thought the lack of ports could be a problem, but the days of the spaghetti factory out back of your computer are well over. If you bye, enjoy

Rated 4 out of 5 by from lightweight but powerful I've had this computer for about 3 weeks now and am quite happy with it. My job means a lot of travel to areas where I might spend much of the day without electricity. When you don't have many programs open and are not actively surfing the internet, the battery lasts a good 9 hours. Pretty good for the weight. It is very light weight with a thin profile, so is very portable. The speakers are nice and I especially appreciate the mat anti-glare screen after struggling with glare for years. The back-lit keyboard makes it easier to work on dark planes. My one concern is that the fan revs up and odd moments, but that hasn't appeared to affect its operating speed. The fingerprint recognition is a bit of a waste. If you're looking for a capable computer to travel with, this is a good option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unbeatable Value Super fast, lightweight and sleek. The specs you get for this price can't be matched. Ideal for applications, web surfing and music and video. The screen is absolutely gorgeous and the fingerprint reader is convenient. I can still type really fast on this keyboard and the touchpad works great. Only negatives I can point out are the coil whine and battery life may be shorter than advertised. Overall, I would highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Remarkably fast with superior construction After a few weeks, I found the Asic ZenBook 3 UX430UA with the 8th generation processor to be remarkably fast. I had no idea technology has moved so far ahead. The large 512GB SSD's are also much faster than my old 4 year old SSD's. Construction is all premium and looks like an MacBook Pro. It is thin and highly portable. The screen is a full 14", bright and extra sharp. The keyboard is back lit which I really like. It came equipped with Windows 10 but it took about 90 minutes of downloading from Microsoft to update the O.S. with the latest mods. I am very satisfied and delighted with Asus ZenBook 3 UX430UA.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great laptop, killer value. First off...I upgraded to this laptop from a 2014 Asus AMD 8310 8 core, 8GB DDR3 1600, 2TB 7200RPM desktop with windows 8.... So... This Laptop is amazing. VERY fast, very quiet, very decent screen. Thin, and light. I think my Samsung tablet weighs more. I use thus for music production, photo editing, and content creation. Ableton Live 9 runs great. 15-25% CPU usage with 8 fully loaded tracks (effects, mastering, plug ins). More than I had hoped for. NI Komplete 10 standard runs well too. No issues with windows 10 compatibility. Photoshop, Lightroom, and premier all run smoothly. Affinity Photo runs well. There isn't any bloatware installed, and I didn't have to deal with any Windows 10 updates....yet. You will not be disappointed. BH was great as always, good price, VERY fast, FREE shipping, ordered Monday morning, was delivered Tuesday morning by FedEx at 8:00.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing and for a great price This computer is absolutely amazing. if you compare specs on processor, screen, hard drive, etc. this thing is way underpriced. ssd means fast startups and 4x faster to save things, etc. acoustics are mind blowing (harmon kardom). i listen to blue grass and as a conoseur of music, all the bass and notes and everything are on point. screen size is perfect. How is this thing so lite. under 3 pounds. is this real life?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing laptop Amazing laptop, and best combination of price, features and performance. Processor is fast, lots of memory and disk space. Screen is IPS. Has all the ports I need - full-size USB, SD card reader and headphone jack. If you work on the go and like to travel light, this one is a no-brainer! (Windows 10 home is a mildly annoying, so I wiped that out and put on 10 Pro)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent specs & quality for price I’ve been waiting for this version (the UX430-DH74) since it’s updated with intel’s 8th gen low-power cores, which for the first time are quad rather than dual core. So it was definitely worth waiting a couple of months for that. Overall, this is a great laptop – I love it. The 14” screen is beautiful, with plenty of brightness, and it’s matte which is my preference. It’s not touch-enabled, which might be a dealbreaker for some, but I don’t see the point in touch screens on laptops anyway, and I detest their glossy reflections. It does use PWM to modify brightness however; which shouldn't affect the majority of users but some might get eyestrain or headaches. It doesn't affect me personally so it's fine, and a lot of modern screens use PWM so it can be difficult to avoid. Overall, build quality is pretty good. There is a tiny flex in the metal surrounding the keypads, and again in the lid, but it’s negligible and barely noticeable and certainly shouldn’t impact usage. Other reviews have noted the cooling performance, and yes, the fans do start up when doing cpu intensive tasks. Some people have installed Notebook Fan Control to increase the heat threshold at which the fan operates, but I haven’t since it doesn’t really bother me – with normal usage, I certainly can’t hear it over other background noises coming in from outside/my fridge. It’s noticeable when it is under stress, but that tends to only be when I’m doing some light gaming and I’ll either have headphones in or music playing. On the whole, I’d rather the fan switches on to keep the cpu cool than to have it heat up more but be quieter. The fingerprint sensor is a useful feature to have – it saves a couple of seconds logging in. Scanning accuracy isn’t always great, though, and I’ve added 3 different profiles of the same finger to ensure it always recognises me – ie with cold/dry finger, wet shrivelled finger from the shower and a ‘normal’ one. This seems to work, though you do need to add slight pressure when using it or it doesn’t recognise you. On the whole this is a great laptop, very good value for money as Asus almost always is.
