The BAE PDI is a passive direct box designed to deliver studio-quality sound and tour-worthy reliability for musicians and audio engineers in personal studios, commercial recording facilities, and live stage applications. By converting an unbalanced high-impedance 1/4" input to a balanced low-impedance XLR output, it allows you to connect an instrument such as a guitar, bass, or keyboard to a microphone input on a mixer or audio interface.
Its Carnhill transformer contributes to its wide, flat frequency response of 10 Hz to 40 kHz (±2 dB). A ground-lift switch minimizes hum caused by ground loops. Two 1/4" unbalanced outputs serve as “thru” jacks for feeding amplifiers and pedalboards. The steel enclosure provides the durability needed to hold up against the attrition of constant gigging. Being passive, the PDI requires no batteries or external power.
