Timbuk2 Commute Messenger Bag reviews

Command Messenger Bag (Medium, Nautical) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 502.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 3 Years and Still Intact Given as a graduation gift. I'm writing this review because I had the bag for so long that I felt some moral responsibility to my bag. it is still in the same condition as I got it; ballistic nylon is no joke. I used to bring my bag everywhere on campus and during short trips. Spacious cargo space and nifty pockets. The quality is great, and the various pockets keep my electronics separated from micro scratches from pens and keys I carry. One situational problem I've noticed is the how much the bag will bulge out if stuffed with clothes. Bottom line: the ol'school Command Messenger is a very good bag that will look to continue to be of service for a very long time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A bag for the ladies? I was very excited to get this bag. I've been searching for a well-designed practical work bag that was a) comfortable to wear b) had all the right pockets so I wouldn't constantly digging through my bag for phone/keys/wallet and c) something that was TSA friendly. So really, in it's design I thought this bag was perfect! The issue is that I don't think it's designed for a 5'3" tall woman. Even the small size seems too big for me. My laptop and commute paraphernalia could easily fit in a somewhat smaller bag. And all the colors are kind of stereotyipcally man-ish- black, green, gray, dark red and blue. It's still the best thing I could find, I just wish there were more options for size and color for the ladies.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Luggage strap digs into back, bad for commute by bike I bought this bag as a bag I can bring into the hospital and look professional. The bag itself looks nice and has many compartments. The problem is the back luggage strap digs into your back when you put it cross body and tighten the strap. I commute by bicycle. I cannot wear this bag comfortably on my back, the luggage strap digs right across the middle of my back. The bag is also quite heavy, just by itself. With a laptop and books and nick nacks it is really heavy for one shoulder. I am a 5' 3' small asian woman and this bag in medium looked huge on me. Keep that in mind. I returned it after I received it by mail from MEC store. Would not recommend for cyclist commuters.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Meh, not that great!! :( I bought this to replace my Commute Laptop TSA-Friendly Messenger Bag 2014, which was a small size. So you would think getting the medium version of this bag, it would be a little bit bigger. It has 428 cu in of volume more than my old bag!! Everything is squished in to my new bag. My water bottle barely fits inside the main compartment. There is no key fob holder!! There seems to be less pockets!! No pen holders!! I thought the hooks would be "quick" but it is not, sometimes it takes two hands to open it!! Terrible!! Wish I would have gotten Commute Laptop TSA-Friendly Messenger Bag 2015 instead. :'(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bag - more business than play As stated, this is a great bag. The shoulder strap is very comfortable and easy to adjust with no slack left over thanks their system. The bag is more geared to taking your computer to work than beers to the beach. Plenty of separate storage options for organizing which is something that other brands don't seem to realize as important. I'm not sure how often the TSA friendly part will be useful but it is nice to be able to access your computer without opening the main compartment. On that that note, the option to do without the loud Velcro closure is a more of a blessing than you realize - really helps the bag "grow up" and fit better in a professional setting.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it but miss the pockets of old Command With pre-check I use the zip out almost not at all, and removal is mandatory in EU, so that's my least used feature. Moving the pocket to the back of the main storage area helped access when loaded, but I have too many things fall out of the front pockets when the bag tips over. That's too much risk so I don't use the small front pocket at all, after my wifi hotspot fell out of the pocket 3 times. I forget to zip up the napoleon pocket in the flap, and lost a cell on the street as a result. The zipper does start up from the bottom a bit, but never stow more than one item there if you might leave that fly open accidentally. Looks way better than old Command though!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good bag, but caution I love the look of the bag and how much stuff I am able to fit inside of it, the medium size. It can hold a laptop, kindle, cell phones, water bottle, and my suit jacket (neatly folded). If I had to purchase this over again, I probably would choose the small. The medium is a little too wide and is constantly getting in the way when I am commuting on a train or bus. Additionally, I have started to notice that as the bag rubs against my clothes, it is causing damage that I have never had with other bags. I have been getting small tears and pilling that occurs on my dress pants, causing more upkeep of my suits than I would prefer. I may try to switch to another type of bag in the near future.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Barely fits my laptop I entered the dimensions of my 17" laptop (and even exaggerated the size a bit), and the Timbuk2 website said this largest size would be sufficient (it even said size medium would be good enough - ha!). However, it's not easy to get my computer in, and once it's in, it is really really difficult to get out. Instead of whizzing through airport security, I'm now the person holding up the line as I wrestle my laptop out of my bag. I feel like the bag needs another inch. I really wanted to love this bag (it's not easy finding a good-looking bag for a 17" laptop), but alas, I'm just lukewarm about it.
