    Roku Ultra reviews

Ultra Streaming Player (2017 Edition) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Slow, poor connectivity, hdmi arc doesn't work So, I got this Roku because some apps are slow sometimes on my Samsung 4k hdr tv. And I thought, great, the Roku has a super powerful cpu and claims to be better at wifi. Well I was surprised. Firstly the apps aren't any faster, sometimes slower, secondly it was always buffering (same app, like youtube TV or Netflix), while my TV never buffers. And if it isn't buffering the quality is super degraded (1080p or less ...). Also it never did hdmi arc correctly with my receiver. My Xbox and TV do hdmi arc just fine, but this guy didn't. Overall worse experience in every dimension I cared about. bummer, I was super excited about it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Device Replaces an earlier device no longer made and not missed. One thing I gotta say. Set-up ain't plug n play. There is a certain amount of trial and error connecting to the internet and making sure all your WiFi devices are on the same server. Mine comes through my cable service and once it reaches my modem/router, I'm wireless. Nothing in consumer tech is as easy to set up as they tell you it's going to be, so you just have to be resourceful and patient. Once I had played audio files from my laptop and my android I knew this was no paperweight. As for the streaming, it's an embarrassment of riches - I hardly know where to begin to commit myself, but I have discovered a world on YouTube that is several quantums ahead on my big screen and audio speakers than it ever was on my laptop. As for the remote, backlighting would be helpful, and for using your phone as a remote, why not a querty keyboard rather than the hunt-n-peck graphic? Also, if you're connecting HDMI to your receiver, don't expect the volume control on your Roku remote to control the volume. For me, my cable remote controls my TV, DVR, and receiver on/off - volume. Not an issue. Even though my TV is 10 years old and only goes up to 1080i, I went for the Ultra - thinking of the future. This is GOOD!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love my Roku I’ve owned a Roku for years now and have always loved it. I just bought this one to update as I got a new 4K television set and my previous Roku was not 4K compatible. The user interface seems to be updated as well, but is still familiar To any Roku user. Roku is the easiest and simplest means to stream high quality entertainment off of the Internet and on to your big screen TV that I have ever encountered. I recommend Roku to all my friends

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Excellent with a very bad disadvantage This player is very strong, the features are modern and rich, it plays everything you give it. the big failure is that there's no support for any non-latin language, I'm not talking about the whole UI I already use English and I'm okay with that. but I mean in the subtitles at least, it should also support non-latin file names, titles, artists, all files tags/details !! Come on, we're in 2018. have they heard about UTF-8 ? It's a bummer for all things I heard and I saw about Roku that they missed such a thing here... Please Roku, add support for non-latin languages & RTL directions also.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handles all my streaming needs I bought the 2017 Roku Ultra Streaming Player to display content from multiple streaming sources: Youtube TV, Youtube, Amazon Prime, Netflix, NHL.TV and NFL Game Pass. The Roku handles all sources very well. I really like the user interface, especially the skip forward and skip back functions instead of Fast Forward and Rewind. The processor in the box seems plenty fast enough, as menu navigation is very fast and the picture quality is great on my TV. My TV is 1080P, not 4K/Ultra-HD so I cannot comment on the higher resolution performance, but I am happy to have that future proof capability for when I buy a new TV later. I really wanted a wired network connection to take advantage of maximum network speed and to keep my home WiFi free for other uses; the Roku Ultra delivered this. The Roku Ultra works seamlessly with myLogitech Harmony Smart Control (I don't use the Roku remote). I researched Apple TV and Chromecast and Amazon Fire. There seemed to be battles between those companies to make their content shine while locking out content from other providers; or at least not making it seamless to play. I like the fact that Roku is provider agnostic. I would definitely recommend this product. My only complaint is with Roku music streaming applications; not the Roku Ultra. I'd really like Roku to support Amazon Prime Music and/or Songza streaming services. It does support Pandora, but they tend to have lots of commercials. Finally, I shopped around and at the time of my purchase, B&H had the lowest price after shipping and taxes. Shipping was reasonably quick and the product arrived on time and without any damage. I have purchased items from B&H several times, and they always have a competitive price and their service is good.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Remote control inaperative As I set up my new Roku Ultra streaming receiver, I was able to use the remote control. The device then automatically updated its software and the remote control became inoperative. Multiple attempts to re pair the control failed. I am able to use the Roku iPhone app to control the device, but this does not let Roku off the hook. I want an operative remote control.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's Awesome now. I've had this for a year now. There was a period of a few months that it made some pops in the surround sound system. Roku's fixed that now via software and all is well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good We had a Roku 2 and this one is noticably faster. The remote has a tv power button and volume. It programs automatically, wow that was nice. No mute button however. This is the only one with an ethernet input so I had to get 4k even though I won't use it.
