Freehands 1151MM reviews

Men's Finger Mittens (Medium) is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from They seem warm I just got them, bought because of a DealZone, I have a pair of of Freehands Thinsulate but they are good but not particularly warm, I was hoping these were better for cold weather and it seems they are, the lining is much thicker and the shell seems more windproof than the others. I gave them 4 stars because I have not used yet in freezing temp. One caution, the sizing, based on the instructions a small should have worked for men (even if barely), I ordered a medium thinking I could use an additional liner. They just fit fine, no room for an additional liner.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Convenient but not super warm I bought this for not just photography but also because I bike in the city and need a mitten that allows me to check my cell phone when I'm at a stop light. This is perfect for that. However, it doesn't keep the hands super warm if the temperature is down under 20 degrees. It's still better than having to take a glove off in those temperatures.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not good for me the warmth is ok, not great. Cool on the seams. Super difficult to keep them on and get at camera controls. I just kept taking them off which defeated the purpose. I’m a video shooter. Perhaps they would be ok for a still photographer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not bad, but has real limitations This glove is pretty good. Having the index finger and thumb open-up is just what a photographer needs. I have a number of gloves where all the fingers open, but not the thumb, and found they just didn't work well for removing lens caps, screwing on filters etc. These gloves are a definite improvement. However, they did not serve in the more extreme conditions. For background -- I live in northern Wisconsin so I'm fairly acclimated to the cold. So your mileage-may-vary depending if you are used to colder or warmer environments. Here is what I found: -- >20F, these are too warm -- 10-20F, absolutely perfect! Not too much, not too little -- 0-10F, not great, needed to wear thin liner gloves underneath -- -27F (yes, was really out in this) failed miserably The problem is the index finger and thumb have no, or very little, insulation. When it is warmer this allows these digits to have good dexterity even when 'closed', but when really cold it is not enough. Liner gloves helped a lot, and this will be go-to kit (for now). It also helps to pull your index finger back into the glove portion when not shooting. I have not tried inserting a chemical hand warm in the back and this may help somewhat, but will not solve the issue of no insulation on the finger/thumb. I regret giving only three stars as they are well made and do work better than many other designs, down to a point. But at the end of the day I do plan to get something else to handle my entire winter season.
