Simply pop the memory card out of your camera, drone, or tablet and insert it into the memory card slot found on the My Passport Wireless SSD. Once inserted, you can transfer all of your photos and videos saved on the memory card directly to the SSD with the push of the one-touch copy button. In addition to transferring data via the memory card slot, this portable SSD also features Wi-Fi support via its 802.11ac Wi-Fi connection along with support for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networking frequencies.

WD My Passport Wireless SSD reviews

500GB My Passport Wireless SSD is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for backing up SD cards I use my Passport for backing up my camera's SD cards when on a photo shoot (or long vacation). After I figured out how to set up the Passport (not perfectly straightforward), it works like a charm. You simply put the SD card in the Passport's slot and it copies the image files from the SD card onto the Passport. You can set it up, as I have, so that it will copy only the files it doesn't already have. So if you backup up one day and shoot the next, it will already have the files from the first day so will copy only those files from the second day.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice build and fast uploading Uploads via SD card or via an attached card reader are fast and easy. Battery lasts a good long while before needing a recharge (two days of heavy use, in my case). Love that it's wireless. I'd give it five stars if the instructions included a way to upload to folders I can name myself and specify. And, for the price, it would be nice if the manufacturer included a protective carrying case. Even so, I'm thrilled to know that I can finally and confidently leave my laptop at home while on shooting trips.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good and Fast Good: Fast and easy to use. The configuration, setup and app are easy enough. Bad: Whats with the connector? why not a USB-C? its not 2015.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not what you want if your workflow involves Lightroom Mobile I tried really hard to get this to work with an Ipad Pro and Lightroom Mobile. My ideal workflow would have been: 1. Use the WD My Passport Wireless SSD to save my SD cards on a daily basis. 2. Download, from the MPWSSD the daily work to my ipad for review, rating, culling, and perhaps light editing. 3. Upon return home, send all the files to my desktop from my ipad. Problem is, there is no way to send in bulk, images downloaded to the MPWSSD to camera roll to allow Lightroom to import. You need to do that individually by each image and it is slow...May as well to get the dongle to download direct to the ipad. You could review the downloaded images via the WD My Passport app, but there is no rating system. I needed to keep the integrity of the Lightroom rating system and edits that I do to the images. In the end, I could not see how this device can be used other than a backup device. Maybe it would be good to use as a video streaming device but neither Netflix or Amazon Prime files can be stored on this with a ipad.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It Works I just finished a 10 day trip using this as my backup--no laptop computer. Things I like: 1) auto backup of memory cards when inserted 2) smaller and lighter than computer 3) good battery life 4) fast copy speed from Passport SSD to computer It took me awhile to learn to use the software with my iPad...the software works, it just has some quirks that took me awhile to figure out.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from buyers remorse I purchased this drive as a way to secure large qtys of data while on the road. I feel the drive is slow in copying data from the card to the drive . it has 802.11 built in, but that stops within 15-20 ft according to WD - i have yet to test the distance yet . I read / saw a lot of videos while i was waiting and i wished i watched them before - buyers remorse.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Charging quirk Overall very nice. Weird charging quirk though. When plugged into a USB 3.0 powered port (and the SSD is mounted) it will not charge from the computer. You have to eject the SSD in windows in order for it to charge from the computer. Kind of a pain to remember. Also, if the battery is near dead, you can't power it from the computer to transfer your files. You'll need to use the external adapter and do the transfer by wireless. Hopefully a future firmware upgrade will fix this inconvenient behavior.
