Vello Umbra Overview

The Umbra Screen Protector with LCD Shade for Canon EOS 6D Mark II from Vello is an ultrathin multi-layered optical glass that statically attaches to the camera's LCD screen and is rated 9H Mohs, which is resistant to breaks and scratches. The crystal-clear glass allows 98% of light transmission, and a nanocoating prevents fingerprints and smudges from appearing on the surface. Because there is no adhesive involved, removal of the glass is residue-free and no cleaning is necessary.

The included pop-up LCD shade magnetically attaches to the screen's metallic border and reduces glare and reflections, which would normally make it difficult to see.

Note:
The Umbra provides between 95 to 100% viewing area on the camera's LCD screen, depending on specific camera model.

I purchased this shade for my Sony RX 100 VII. The description is promising but the workmanship is unfortunately poor. The contact surface of the shade which has the magnets to hold the protection screen with metal frame is not plane so that the magnets lift the frame at the point of contact. This causes that the protective screen gets lifted away from the display surface and gets separated. It is not possible to open the shade without losing the grip to the screen.

I’m very happy with this screen protector and LCD shade.   I always put a screen protector on my LCD screens.  They have protected my cameras numerous times.  And considering the cost of replacing an LCD screen, I would much rather have a screen protector installed for its added protection.  I’m very happy with this glass screen protector.  It is crystal clear and was easy to install.  I had no issues.  It fits perfectly and you forget it is even there.  The Sony A73 I use has a touch screen LCD and it still works great with the screen on, I’ve experienced no problems or latency with the screen installed.  The specs say the glass screen has nanocoating to prevent fingerprints and smudges, and I agree.  It also is good at preventing glare which is appreciated.   I’m happy with the sunshade too.  I live in sunny South Florida and a LCD shade is necessary.  And this shade is perfect for my needs by making shooting outdoors much better.  I can see what I’m doing.  I love the design of this screen protector and shade too.  The shade attaches magnetically right to the screen protector’s metallic border.  I think that is an excellent design.  It makes it so easy to put the shade on and take it off.  You just align it properly and it sticks right on.  Very easy to do.  I also love that there are no adhesives and glue used with this kit.  That’s great.  Another nice feature is the shade is “spring activated”.  Meaning when you open the top shade, the side shades “pop open” into place automatically with a small spring on each side.  That’s cool, and makes using it fast and simple.  I appreciate that.  I’m very happy with this protective screen/shade combo.  It’s been great.  [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review]

Unfortunately, Vello does not manufacture a Umbra Screen Protector with LCD Shade designed for use on the Canon EOS R6 Mirrorless Digital Camera, and the Vello Umbra Screen Protector with LCD Shade for Canon EOS 6D Mark II would not be compatible for use on the Canon EOS R6. The closest option for a screen protection from Vello would be the Vello LCD Screen Protector Ultra for Canon EOS R6 Cameras, B&H # VEGSPUCR6.

Unfortunately the Vello Umbra Screen Protector with LCD Shade for Select Canon Cameras will not fit the Canon T6 camera. Currently no one makes a similar shade that will fit the Canon T6.

The screen of the Alpha SLT-A77 is considered 3 . The Vello Umbra Screen Protector has been proven to work on late model Sony 3 screen cameras. We are then of the opinion that this should work correctly.
