Sennheiser HDV 820 Reviews

Great sounding amp/dac but...

Great sounding amp when paired with the 800S headphones. I have not used the dac portion of the HDV820 yet as I have not been able to get it and my laptop to play nice even after downloading the driver. Senn's customer service and tech support leave a lot to be desired. This amp needs a remote for volume control. Weird implementation of headphones cable jack's. One balanced XLR has been converted to 1/4 rca, the other balanced XLR is a balanced headphone standard, and the 1/8 connector is for Senn's 800S balanced cable. I don't know whether a standard single ended 1/8 terminated headphone cable will work in that jack. Not risking 2K or a cheap can to find out. There are no tone controls, eq or spatializer settings and for the price I think those features really out to be there along with a remote. Running the amp section balanced in and out with 800S and a great disc spinner , treats the listener to sonic bliss. There is synergy here and I am sure that is what Sennheiser intended but I can't recommend this amp for any other reason.

Outstanding!!!

Space, detail, dynamics and abundant of power...the Sennheiser HDV 820 has it all. I use it mostly with the new HD820 headphones, however It will make all your headphones sound better. I re-cabled my HD650, Sony MDR-Z7, Shure SRH 1540 and Audio Technica ATH-R70x to balanced cables. All had improved sound stage, detail and impact. The Sony MDR-Z7 were transformed! If you can afford it, but it.
