Color Calibration
There are a few key factors to consider when determining whether a monitor meets your color-critical needs. They are color gamut, color depth, brightness, white point, and black level. Calibrating your monitor is necessary for color-critical work, and can help to deliver more accurate images. NEC's SpectraViewII provides hardware for a user-friendly calibration and can be customized for color gamut, white point, and gamma corrections, as well as other settings.

This is my 3rd NEC monitor . They keep getting better. I was told I would not be billed until item Shipped by supplier; however, I was billed right after I placed my order. Instructions are not in English in printed form with monitor. CD included but who has a CD Drive anymore?

A replacement

Im a photographer and the PA243 is a replacement for another NEC monitor that died. I use the spectra view software to calibrate the monitor. After years of working to make monitor and print match, the NEC and spectaview software with the calibrator make that a no guesswork task.

excellent so far

Previous wide gamut monitor was an NEC P221W whose fluorescent backlighting aged out of calibratability. Could not even meet sRGB using SpectraView II. I use it as an uncalibrated monitor for a secondary W10 system not used for graphics. I am using this new monitor on a W7 system since my scanners and software require me to keep using W7. This new monitor is excellent for my purposes, mainly photo editing and processing. I used the latest update of SpectraView II to calibrate it to Adobe RGB, and found the only notable difference was a slightly more accurate whitepoint (slightly warmer) when compared to the Spectra measurement of the internal Adobe profile built into the monitor. I am assuming the SpectraView puck is accurate. When I'm not using LR or PS with the Spectra calibration (where I have set a lower luminosity, to match prints better) I use the internal Adobe RGB setting at a brighter screen luminosity unless i am using the internal sRGB profile for general non-color managed work online etc. The increased size is also convenient since i can fit a 13x19 print on the screen. Overall I am very happy with this monitor, and I hope it lasts. It is more sophisticated at internal management than the previous one, and although expensive, to me is well worth it. At this point I would never buy another monitor that does not use internal 'hardware' LUT management of color calibration. NEC has been easily reachable and helpful on the phone for technical questions, and the tech phone people seem to know what they are talking about, and speak American English, and are not reading scripts. This is my third NEC monitor (first one was a CRT that had a color gun die) and I remain a satisfied customer even when the equipment dies after years of service. This one is the most sophisticated and convenient yet. The physical quality seems adequate so far. I am not using the USB hub or speakers. Tom's Hardware review says external calibration is not necessary for this monitor due to it's internal accuracy...I like the convenience of the SpectraView II system and given the slightly too blue internal Adobe RGB profile on mine, I am glad I have it. NEC says that once you buy SpectraView you do not ever have to pay for an upgrade -- they just keep adding monitors to the updated software. I hope that stays the same.

Early failure

Our company has purchase 6 of these monitors from B&H. 2 have failed. The one purchased in Nov. of 2018 failed in less than a year. NEC took a month to send a replacement. Today one more failed that was purchased in July of 2018, less than 2 years after purchase. This is not a good record. And we probably won't get a warranty replacement this time. I have enjoyed the professional configuration of these monitors (clean, no wasted space, no speakers, matte black finish) and excellent display quality but will now look for another model or brand.
