I use it to hold camera remotes exactly where I need them. A pin in the 1/4 thread holes allowed me to add a Varizoom rocker on the same assembly. This is a versatile problem-solving widget.

Plastic or metal? Can the parts handle enough ...

Plastic or metal? Can the parts handle enough torque to keep ball sockets from rotating if there's any breeze when holding an umbrella?

The parts are sturdy to hold all the equipment together. We can't guarantee that everything would stay in place no matter the weather conditions. However, light conditions should not be a problem.
