We use two of these, each provides one side of redundant power backup for a rack of 4 servers and a switch. They provide excellent protection and the ability to manage them online is very helpful. Our previous SMT1500C units lasted over 7 years.
Last one purchased on 2012 A workhorse!

I currently use multiple APC Line R 1200 to smooth voltage fluctuations from a whole house air conditioner for desktop computers. If I use the APC SMT1500V does it replace the APC Line R 1200s or do I continue to use them?
Yes, you can use this as a voltage regulator but it seems to be way overkill for a desktop computer. I would look at something a bit cheaper like the SMT1000 or even the SMT750
