The Hook Studios MD-150-70 Mechanical Decoupler is a patent-pending microphone mount designed to separate the metal stand from the metal or rubber clip of the microphone, stopping the metal-to-metal connection that can have adverse effects on the resulting sound. It’s designed to minimize the vibration that can occur, particularly as loud signals impact the microphone.
Using custom-machined aluminum fittings alongside a center-compression absorber (fashioned out of a viscoelastic polymer), the MD-150-70 improves the sound of your recording by increasing the clarity, as unwanted metallic resonances will not interfere with the fundamentals and overtones being captured. This mount will decouple the microphone from the stand regardless of the angle of employment, or direction of use.
The size of this mount is compatible with most standard studio microphones, up to the weight of a U87 or similar large-diaphragm condenser, and will fit with all 5/8”-27 threads. The product is suitable for use in live sound scenarios, as well as in recording on location or in studios.
