Leica CL reviews

CL Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18mm Lens (Black) is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The CL is a true lightweight APS-C system camera Because the TL camera preceded it by several years, this little camera, with an excellent electronic viewfinder has a half dozen excellent lenses ready to be used -- three zoom lenses, an 18 mm pancake and fast 23, 35, and 60 mm lenses. Plus any Leica M or R manual focus lens (with an adapter). I'm finding (after about a month) that it handles fast and intuitively, autofocus is accurate, manual focus is reliable, and the image quality is superior to what I have gotten with a Fuji X-T2. Only drawback -- it's expensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact and versatile system Almost daily for the past 6 weeks, I have been playing with the CL with native TL-lenses (TL 18mm, 23mm, 18-56mm; all of which are optically excellent), as well as manual lenses in the Leica M-mount (via the M-to-L adapter). The body is small, but at the same time sufficiently large to be comfortably hand hold. The Image quality is at state-of-the-art for cropped sensors with 24MP resolution, I would range it from excellent for ISOs up to 800, and useable at much higher ISOs. For comparison, I find the CL sensor to be on par with Nikons D500. The colours are balanced and natural out of camera. The auto focus with the TL-lenses is accurate and fast. The electronic view finder is very good and gives you the information needed to properly adjust/set focus and exposure. After a little use, the menu system is quick and intuitive; several user-defined menu-combinations can be stored for quick resetting. I foresee that forthcoming software updates will contribute to streamline the menu further. Bottom line: Leica CL is the first high-quality, modular system that I can bring with me almost everywhere, either with the 18-56mm zoom only, or with a few small TL- og M-mount lenses in a (very) small bag. The CL is also fully compatible with the SL-lenses, for those having those (optically outstanding) lenses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Camera is great, even better if you have M Lenses The camera is awesome, startup time is quick (if i recall, its faster than the Q). I've had the Q before and I did not like it. Sure the aperture selection is great (something missing from the TL and SL lenses) but otherwise the camera controls were not as intuitive. EVF: the evfis quick with minimal lag even ona smaller f-stop. the EVF-Extended mode on the CL is great. I can turn off image review and shoot it with the EVF. When i go to the menu it can show on the big screen. This mirrors the behavior on the Leica M. and again I recall the Q was not this way. Lens: the 18mm f2.8TL is decent, its a bit more clinical than older M glass, but for all intents and purposes it performs well. Where this camera shines is when pairing it with M lenses like the Summilux v1 50mm f1.4 and Summicron 35mm f2 v1. The colors, in/out of focusrendering similar to the M. Focus peaking is when shooting in low light situations with abig aperture. Wifi connectivity is decent but not GREAT. but it's usable when you just want to extract a JPG out for quick sharing or review. Overall i am very happy with my purchase. I can have this travel companion with my M and so i can have others take our photo without them struggling to focus my M.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Camera gets out of the way, except for one big flaw IMO I would give this 5 stars except for one thing: The manual focus implementation on L-mount lenses has the insane "acceleration" feature, such that when making adjustments you never know how much turn of the ring will result in a given amount of focus adjustment. The camera needs a menu item with at least three settings: accelerated MF, long throw MF, short throw MF. The latter of these is for the case where quick acquisition of MF is more important than the last little bit of accuracy. If you only use AF, you won't care, but I predict that most photographers will mature to plenty of times they want good MF, and in a system that is supposed to be small it is not a good idea to mandate carrying two different lenses... on AF and one MF.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from buttery smooth images and colors! This camera totally delivers on the accurate Leica colors and buttery smooth images I was looking for. With the 18mm prime lens it’s nice and compact... much smaller than other mirrorless options I’ve seen. Great for minimalist design lovers.
