    Lowepro 400 AW II reviews

Flipside 400 AW II Camera Backpack (Black) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camera Gear Backpack, Fits a Super Zoom I looked at dozens of backpacks. My criteria were well-made, full opening to the main compartment, tripod-carrying capacity, and large enough for a big lens (Sigma 150-600) attached to a body. This backpack was my choice. The body/lens/reversed hood fit snuggly down the middle, with room for additional lenses, batteries, etc along either side. It is too snug to easily fit a tablet in the designated area with the big zoom, so if carrying a tablet/laptop along, you may want to look at the next size up. The dividers seem to be a bit firmer than the original 400AW, so gear stays positioned better. The tripod location in the center keeps things well balanced.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Some good, some bad. Good points: Lots of fit adjustment for best comfort. Dividers provide versatile configurability. Good quality fabric, stitching, zippers. I can just fit a Nikon D500 mounted to a 200-500 5.6 with the hood reversed, with room left for a 70-210 f4 and two smaller primes. Bad points: Advertised as fitting a 15" laptop. Tried three different brands in my household but none fit. Not even close. I think the maximum fit is closer to 13.5" x 10.5". The ad gimmick is that you can flip the pack open as you wear it off the front of your hips. However, when the lid is unzipped, the weight of your gear can cause the pack to flip over on your thighs and spill your precious glass. It is also very awkward to close up the pack from this position since the gear weight deforms the shape making zipping difficult.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great backpack Having purchased Lowepro backpacks before, I was sure the quality would be first class and the Flipside certainly did not disappoint! We like the single point access and the ability to get to our equipment without having to set the bag down. Those two features are what drove us to pick this pack. I can carry my Nikkon D750 with my 200-500 zoom attached and still have room for some other gear. However, I won't be able to carry that big lens with one of my other lenses attached. Just a minor inconvenience that might have been mitigated by purchasing the 500 series, even though dimensionally, there does not seem to be that much difference in the two sizes to make a difference with such a large lens. The packs are very comfortable and distribute the load very well. We love our new backpacks! And as usual, the service we get from the team from B&H is outstanding! Thanks!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perhaps The Perfect Backpack In preparation for a recent trip out to Washington to photograph the Palouse, I could not decide whether to carry my gear in my large Domke bag or try to fit everything in a smaller backpack that I already owned. I knew that I would be traipsing through not less than four airports each way, and I thought using a bag with all the weight on one shoulder would not be the way to go. The backpack I already had was a sling bag, so again, all the weight would be on one shoulder. I needed a larger backpack with two shoulder straps in order to distribute the weight better. I was planning on bringing two Canon pro-SLRs with battery grips, four lenses including the 100-400mm, a tele-extender, extra batteries, lens hoods, filters, etc. It all totaled 25lbs. After a good bit of research, I settled on the Lowepro Flipside 400 AW II backpack. I could not have chosen better. The bag had enough padded compartments for all my stuff and I loved the fact that the backside swings completely open to provide quick and easy access to all my gear. I have full view of all my equipment. I don't have to hunt through pockets like with a shoulder bag. There are plenty of compartments for iPads, Kindles, small laptops, passports, instruction manuals, etc. There are even mesh pockets on the outside that I used for a water bottle and granola bars. The Flipside comes with an all-weather cover and a tripod harness, but I used neither on my trip to the Palouse, so I can't speak to those features, but I'm glad they are there when I do need them. The backpack is made extremely well. I was initially concerned about how it would hold up after ten days of solid shooting and traveling. It is very comfortable and at times I even forgot I had 25lbs. on my back. The weight distribution was excellent, especially when using the waist and chest straps. Overall, I am totally satisfied with the Lowepro 400. I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Bag, Secure Design I am taking this bag on my trip to Europe. The biggest advantage for me is that the main compartment zipper is against my back. Nobody can casually unzip the bag and get at the contents while I am wearing it. I also like that it has two mesh side pockets (one on each side) for water bottles. There are many other features which can be seen on the website.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable Pack The pack is comfortable with a chest and waist strap. Well padded. Big enough to take what you would need on a day hike. Not too big that when you load it up, you can't walk with it on your back. Its my second one....so that tells you how much I do like it. Also a few of my friends have the same pack. Well worth the cost.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really Pleased I used this bag for two zoom lens and two other lenses plus the Sony A77 II and a monopod stuck on the side. Easily accommodated all of my staff and fitted comfortably on my bag. All this stuff can be quite a bit, but this bag made it all much easier to carry around.
