I've had this bag for a couple of months now and am using it alongside a collection of smaller bags. I've been wanting something larger for a while now and after a few too many hours of searching, settled on this. I'm a former FT military photographer, turned PT travel photographer. I typically keep a Nikon Z8 with a pair of lenses, a Nikon ZFC backup with some small lenses, and a DJI Air 3S drone in it. Along with a few odds and ends. It can be a tight squeeze sometimes if I really want to bring big lenses or too many accessories, but for day-to-day use, it works. I wouldn't try adding a tablet, laptop, or anything else with that load. there's also just enough room on the side for a water bottle. I appreciate how easy it is to set it down and quickly grab what I need, and I like keeping the ZFC in the pocket next to the side zipper to quickly grab a camera out when needed. The only downsides I'm seeing are this: The plastic shell on the top and bottom of the back seem to be really easy to scuff up whenever I set the bag down. I'm hopeful that won't lead to premature wear. A little concerned about it at the moment, but still holding up nicely. also, there really is no way to fully open the bag while wearing it, which apparently was an option with the older version of this bag. You do have to set it down to fully open it, or at least spin it around while sitting and use your legs for support. I really wasn't expecting that option though given the weight of what I am keeping in it. I've had Lowepro bags for most of my 25 year career, and they are definately going to remain my default brand.

Feedback. I just purchased a Flipside 400 AW III. It is replacing my Flipside 400 AW i. The version iii has some great new features like the back handle and the bumpers on the front but I am super disappointed with the step back in quality and functionality in other areas. I can no longer bring a jacket and attach it to the top cinch straps. The removal of one of the side exterior pockets is a huge shame. The side access pocket is not the point of this bag. I cant believe I now have to make space in my backpack for the AW cover. Why on earth would that not remain connected like in so many other bags. I am disappointed that the tripod space now takes the spot of a water bottle so I cant have both. The inside fabric in the front pocket feels and looks cheap. THe front zip feels cheap and only zips from one side. Inconvenient. Finally the waist strap on the version iii feels cheap and has far less padding and less coverage than Version i. There are so many things I like about your brand and I have 10 Lowepro bags. I so wanted to love this next step in the Flipside journey. I am so sad it is a backwards step. As you look forward, one feature that would be actually useful is zips that are designed to be locked together. Every one of these bags is designed to carry thousands of dollars worth of gear. Why would you not help us protect it?

The waist belt on the Lowepro Flipside 400 AW III Camera Backpack (Black) cannot be removed; however, there is a pocket that the belt can slip into next to the waist belt on the side of the bag for storage when you don't need it and/or want it out of the way.

Will this fit under airline seats? can the door on the side that opens to get the camera out be locked some way?

For most airlines, the bag size for carry-on is, 22 inches long, 14 inches wide, and 9 inches high. However, every airline has its own guidelines and policy. Please check with your airline for more details. As the the side door of the bag, yes you will be able to use a small lock on the zippers.
