Fujifilm X-T20 overview

  • 1Description

Comprising the essentials needed to begin shooting, the black Fujifilm X-T20 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Free Accessories Kit from B&H bundles the sleek camera body and standard zoom lens with a holster-style camera bag and a memory card.

  • Fujifilm X-T20 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens (Black)

Blending a familiar form factor with a heightened feature-set, the black X-T20 from Fujifilm is a sleek mirrorless camera designed for multimedia shooters. Utilizing a 24.3MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS III sensor and X-Processor Pro image processor, high-resolution stills can be recorded with notable sharpness and clarity due to the sensor's organic layout and omission of an optical low-pass filter. The sensor and processor combination also avails an extended sensitivity range to ISO 51200, a 14 fps continuous shooting rate when working with the electronic shutter, and the ability to record UHD 4K or Full HD 1080p video. When working with moving subjects, continuous autofocus performance has been optimized for improved moving subject tracking and overall accuracy, and Advanced SR Auto mode can also be used for fully automated shooting with intelligent scene recognition. Additionally, the retro-inspired camera body design incorporates a tilting 3.0" 1.04m-dot touchscreen LCD as well as a 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder, and physical dials are available for quickly and intuitively adjusting exposure and shooting settings.

Included with the X-T20 is the XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS lens; a standard zoom lens providing a 27-84mm equivalent focal length range, covering wide-angle to portrait-length perspectives. This lens integrates optical image stabilization to minimize the appearance of camera shake to benefit working with longer shutter speeds or greater focal lengths and a linear motor-drive AF system provides fast, smooth focusing capabilities.

    24.3MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS III Sensor
Utilizing Fujifilm's unique, randomized pixel array, the 24.3MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS III sensor affords a high degree of image quality and sharpness due to the omission of an optical low-pass filter. Versus conventional pixel patterns, the X-Trans design more closely mimics the organic nature of film in order to produce nuanced colors and smooth tonal transitions, while also reducing moiré and aliasing.
    X-Processor Pro
Aside from benefitting the low-light performance with an expandable sensitivity range to ISO 51200, the X-Processor Pro also contributes to fast performance throughout the camera system, including a start-up time of 0.4 seconds, shutter lag time of 0.05 seconds, shooting interval time of 0.25 seconds, and a continuous shoot rate of 14 fps when working with an electronic shutter, or 8 fps with a mechanical shutter.
UHD 4K and Full HD Video
Accessible via the drive dial on the top plate, the X-T20 supports both recording in both UHD 4K/30p and Full HD 1080/60p resolutions. Film Simulation modes can be used during recording to give a distinct look to footage, and video can also be output via HDMI to an external recorder or monitor, and a mic jack is featured for working with an external microphone.
    Body Design
    • The rear 3.0" 1.04m-dot LCD touchscreen allows for intuitive operation, focus point selection, and menu navigation, and its tilting design benefits working from high and low angles.
    • High-resolution 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder allows for bright, clear eye-level monitoring with a frame rate of 54.54 fps for smooth monitoring in a range of lighting conditions.
    • Dedicated shutter speed, drive mode, and exposure compensation dials for direct, intuitive control over exposure and shooting settings.
    • The physical exposure compensation dial now features a C position to permit an expanded +/- 5 EV range when working with the control dials.
    • Built-in Wi-Fi allows for direct wireless sharing of files as well as remote camera control from a linked mobile device.
    • Built-in pop-up flash is available for additional illumination, and a hot shoe is featured for working with an optional external flash.
    91-Point Autofocus System
Utilizing both contrast- and phase-detection methods, the hybrid autofocus system employs 91 total points, which can be divided into 325 total areas for a high degree of focusing accuracy in a variety of lighting conditions. Approximately 50% side-to-side and 75% top-to-bottom of the frame is covered by phase-detection points in order to provide fast AF performance to suit working with moving subjects.

When working with autofocus, you can choose either single-shot AF-S mode or continuous AF-C mode, and each can be used in conjunction with Single Point AF, Zone AF, or Wide/Tracking AF settings. Additionally, AF-C Custom Settings let you choose from five AF-C presets depending on how your subject is moving, and the AF algorithm has been optimized for improved subject tracking and overall accuracy.
    Film Simulation Modes
Taking advantage of Fujifilm's vast history in traditional film-based photography, the X-T20 integrates several Film Simulation modes, which can be used for photos or videos, to mimic the look and feel of some of Fujifilm's classic film types. A refined Classic Chrome mode is designed to deliver muted tones and a deep color reproduction, similar to that of a dated slide film. Pulling from their more contemporary line of transparency films, Provia offers natural-looking tones for everyday shooting, Velvia produces a more dramatic and rich tonality with deeper color saturation, and Astia gives less contrast for a softer depiction of skin tones. Mimicking their negative films, Pro Neg. Std. gives smooth image tones that are suitable for accurate color renditions, while Pro Neg. Hi produces a more dramatic feel with the ability to draw color out of a variety of lighting conditions. In addition to the colorful benefits of these Film Simulation modes, there are also monochrome modes that simulate the look of traditional yellow, green, and red black and white contrast filters, as well as an Acros mode that can also be paired with colored filter effects. A sepia mode is also available for producing an inherently nostalgic look.
Fujinon XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS Lens
The included XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS lens provides a 27-84mm equivalent focal length range, covering wide-angle to portrait-length perspectives to suit working with most everyday subject matter. An optical image stabilization system counters the appearance of camera shake by up to four shutter speed steps and a linear-driven autofocus motor helps to produce quick and smooth focusing performance. Three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element work to minimize chromatic aberrations throughout the zoom range while also benefitting overall image clarity and sharpness. A Super EBC coating has also been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for an enhanced contrast and neutral colors.
    Other Camera Features
    • Advanced SR Auto mode can be used for fully automatic shooting with scene recognition to permit on-the-fly shooting in a variety of settings.
    • Interval Timer shooting lets you record an infinite number of consecutive frames with 1 second to 24 hour intervals, and a 1 minute to 24 hour starting delay.
    • Multiple Exposure mode lets you shoot two consecutive overlaid frames, and the first frame will be shown on the rear LCD to aid in alignment for the second exposure.
    • In-camera 180° panoramas can be shot by simply panning the camera about the scene.
    • Advanced Filters: Toy Camera, Dynamic Tone, Miniature, High Key, Soft Focus, Pop Color, Low Key, and Partial Color (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Purple).

Fujifilm X-T20 reviews

X-T20 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens and Free Accessories Kit (Black) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Small, light, inconspicuous This little camera has great image quality. I am primarily a Canon shooter, so the menu system and electronic viewfinder take some getting used to. However, I have taken some fine images with the X-T20 and am getting to like it. One problem with a big DSLR is that intimidates people.: this camera, on the other hand, is tiny and inconspicuous. It is very well made. The 18-55 lens is excellent. I also have the 35mm f/1.4. It is a little gem. I bought it for travel but I am finding it very useful for family and street photography. I would have purchased the Canon M50, but the Canon M lens offerings do not compare with the Fuji lenses currently available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Camera I was a long time Nikon SLR user and a few years ago I decided to give mirrorless a try and purchased a Sony A6000. While I was impressed with Sony and their system, I heard the Fuji lenses were impressive and I came across the XT20. Since owning the Sony I found the menus a bit clunky and it was difficult to make any manual adjustments on the fly. What I like best about the XT20 is that all the controls are physical and at my fingertips. Most of the Fuji lenses have an aperture ring too which is really nice. So far I am very impressed with the functionality of the XT20 and the Fuji lenses (their “kit 18-55” and their 50 f2) which are amazing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing camera packed in this little package I have been shooting Nikon D300's, D750 and D500 and this little camera makes is as good and better in all aspects. Crystal clear, tack sharp and extremely fast. I wanted a small light weight camera for a trip coming up and this matched with the 18-55mm lens is the perfect solution. It is very light to carry around to grab and go. Getting use to the menus and setting it up to shoot my style took a little bit but once I figured it out it has been great. Maybe I was thinking too hard about it because I was thinking about my other camera setting but this camera right out of the box in full automatic everything will not disappoint you. It is compact so if you have big hands you will need to develop a new style compared to using a DSLR, but I wanted compact with top quality and feel I have it and more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great camera at any price - love the size and weight I got back into photography after retiring three years ago. I was always a Nikon person so I bought a D5300 when I retired, which I liked a lot. But as I got more into digital photograph I traded up to a Nikon D750 to get full frame. I like the camera a lot, but the full frame body and lens are big and heavy, so I wanted to get a second smaller camera I can have with me most of the time. I have a iPhone 8plus, and it takes pretty good pictures, but its not the same as a real digital camera. I’m the member of several photography meetups in NYC, and over the past year I noticed a lot of Fuji’s when going out on shoots. And there seems to be a trend toward mirrorless cameras. I had a Fuji digital camera when such cameras first came out and got good results, so I researched the Fuji X-T2. I was impressed with the results I saw and all the good buzz. But being retired, and the fact that this would be a second camera, I came across the X-T20 – cheaper, smaller and lighter than the X-T2 with the exact same lens, processor and sensor. I purchased the X-T20 with the 18-55mm lens. I am a raw shooter (using Lightroom and Photoshop) so I at first wasn’t that interested in the jpeg features of the X-T20. But now that I have used the camera extensively for two months, I find I really like it, and shoot both raw and jpeg (unlike with my D750 where I shoot just raw). Having large hands, I was concerned with the smaller body, but have found that isn’t really a problem. I was really blown away with the 18-55mm lens, which is very sharp and produces rich images with saturated color. I did find getting use to the dials difficult at first but got used to it. I really like the EVF (electronic viewfinder), especially being able to shoot video looking through the EVF (which you can’t do with a DSLR which requires live view). I do wish Fuji will come up with a better eye piece since, as I read and watched on YouTube, in extreme sunlight it can get distracting, but that situation might come up 5% of the time. As I used the X-T20 more and more, I decided to buy both a 10-24mm and 55-200mm lenses. I’m thinking that when the X-T3 comes out in a few years, I’ll buy the body and keep the X-T20 as a second camera and have those lens for the X-T3. I don’t know if I’ll keep the D750 at that time, but for now, I am happy having the Nikon D750 with the Fuji X-T20 – especially when shooting events where it’s nice to have two camera’s – and that’s where the small, light X-T20 is really going to make that easier. At the end of the day, the image quality is the major feature of a camera, and the Fuji really has excelled in sharpness and color rendering. And even as a raw shooter, I find I check out the jpegs and like all the film simulations (especially since I used to shoot more Fujifilm than Kodak back in the day).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little camera Excellent little camera. I've been a Nikon user for 30 years but this camera's files/ colors blow the Nikon out of the water..

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just ok I really enjoy the look and size of this camera. The overall build is solid. The tilt LCD screen is great. What I don’t like, the 18-55mm lens. I don’t find is as sharp as everyone claims it to be. I feel the lens is missing focus about 30% my shots. Just straight pure blur. I’ve adjusted everything I can think of and the issue is still hit or miss. I’ve read several other complains about this lens as well. I’m rather disappointed in my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Loving my X-T20 I've only had the camera a week, but so far I am very pleased with it. I was worried that learning the menu system of a new camera would be overwhelming, but it is quite intuitive and, with the help of some YouTube tutorials, not hard to learn at all. The camera itself is the perfect size for my purposes (travel and street photography) and it is easy to handle compared to my old Nikon DSLR. Best of all, the quality of the images has been first rate. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent combination of camera and lens Very pleased with the camera, lightweight and loaded with options. The lens is very sharp and fast focusing. Only critic is the low battery life you will need a second battery to any lengthy photo shoot
