Designed for electric guitar players, the Budda Budwah by Peavey is a wah-wah pedal, one that has been historically regarded. This particular iteration of the pedal seeks to improve upon a key aspect of the original design—the tweakability of the pedal’s treadle.
One of the more popular aspects of the original pedal was the ability to tune its tension to your specific predilections. Whether you wanted a loose feel or a tighter operation, you’d be able to achieve your desired setting by adjusting a bolt underneath the treadle. In earlier models, pliers or vice grips would be needed to make this tweak. In this model, the bolt has been changed to an Allen-head bolt, and an Allen wrench has been supplied to facilitate tweaking without pliers. Thus, if you want to give the pedal a tight feel—so you can set it at a specific frequency band and walk away from it, for example—you can do this easily with the allen wrench.
Sonically, the Budwah provides a mellower, smoother tone than comparable wahs, as a high-frequency roll off has been introduced at the high-end to ensure your trebles aren’t terribly piercing. This is made possible by means of a custom-coil inductor inspired by vintage wahs. Other benefits of this design include a honky midrange and a beefy, thick low-end—depending, of course, on how you use the pedal.
