Voigtlander Nokton overview

  • 1Description

Distinguished by its speed, the Nokton 40mm f/1.2 Aspherical from Voigtlander is a short normal prime designed for M-mount rangefinder cameras. Its comfortable focal length pairs with an impressively fast f/1.2 maximum aperture to enable notable control over depth of field for producing shallow depth of field imagery, and this aperture also benefits working in difficult lighting. Complementing the fast design is an optical layout that uses two aspherical elements to suppress spherical aberrations and distortion for notable sharpness, clarity, and accurate rendering. The lens's manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 1.6' away, and it is also rangefinder coupled to 2.3' for working with optical focusing systems.

Unique 40mm focal length offers a 55° angle of view that is slightly wider than the classic 50mm length, yet narrower than the standard 35mm wide-angle.
Bright, fast f/1.2 maximum aperture affords extensive control over depth of field for selective focus techniques, and also benefits working in low-light conditions.
Two aspherical elements are featured in the optical design to control spherical aberrations and improve clarity, sharpness, and resolution.
Manual focus design permits smooth, refined control along with a minimum focusing distance of 1.6'.
Focus coupled to 2.3' for working with an M-mount rangefinder's optical focusing system.
Rounded ten-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth quality of bokeh.
Compatible with optional LH-8 lens hood.

    Voigtlander Nokton reviews

Nokton 40mm f/1.2 Aspherical Lens is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Voigtlander 40mm is simply a great lens I like smaller lenses for my Leica M 10. I found the Noctilux 0.95 very heavy and I was always for some reason afraid to carry it and somehow damage the body or the hood of the lens. I sold the Nocitux and purchased the 50mm APO Leica which I disliked. I like to take photos at night in South America and Asia. At f2.0 I found the lens too slow in situations I needed speed. Also with both the Noctilux and the 50mm APO I did not like the way they rendered. If I want perfection I can purchase a Sony 42 maga pixel. So the Nokton to me is a perfect compromise. I found my photos detailed and I liked the Bokeh. This is a great lens and yes I still own some Leica lenses including the amazing 75mm Summilux.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Bokeh I bought the lens on the morning of my recent one-week stay in NYC and I don't regret it. I put on the lens on my M240 in the adjoining waiting room close to the entrance of B&H (like many others). I used it for most of the pictures I took during my stay (apart from a few wide-angle pictures with my Super-Elmar 21mm and a few telephoto pictures with my Summarit 90mm). I really loved the quality of the pictures and being able to rely on an opening of 1.2 is very convenient in some streets in NYC (often with low light on one side of the street).
