You can not go wrong, works WELL and PREFECT.
Price was competitive, in line with other vendors. Performance was above average, well pleased. Longevitity yet to be determined.
Installed easily in my Dell XPS 8940. Needed help getting Win 11 to access the drive but Crucial customer support came through. As always B&H provided timely delivery.
Another SSD upgrade success
This could be the 4th time I've used a Crucial MX500 to upgrade a system from spinning hard drive. Easy swap and working like a charm as always. I haven't performed any speed tests against other top-rated SSD's, but I always find this Crucial SSD at slightly lower price point (especially THIS time with great B&H discount!) so I'm grateful for that. ;)
Delivers as promised
I recently replaced the data hard drive in my PC with a Crucial 2TB MX500 SSD. There was a noticeable improvement in video and photo rendering speeds with this upgrade. Files load and save much faster with the new drive. I cannot comment on the longevity of the drive as I have only had it for two weeks. But SSD's are said to have a limited number of write cycles -- usually shorter than those in hard drives. With hard drives I always run two identical drives in a redundant RAID-1 array. This way I can still recover the data from the good drive if one of them fails, and have happened once before when the drives get old (5+ years). Besides, typically you don't lose all the data in a hard drive at once. Instead the built in detectors will warn of a failing drive and allow for recovery of most of the data. SSD's tend to die taking all the data with them. Building a RAID-1 array gets very expensive as SSD's typically cost twice as much as a decent hard drive of similar capacity. For this reason I am only running one SSD, but do regular backups to a server on the home network. This gives me the extra protection in case of the SSD having a failure. The risk of a premature failure is not unique to one brand and can happen with most reputable brands. I feel that this SSD gives me a worthwhile speed increase with the peace of mind that my data will still be recoverable from the regular backups. There are more expensive drives that give faster data transfer rates, but you pay 50% extra for a 10% gain in speed. This I think hits the sweet spot.
I added it to my Alienware Aurora R9 as an extra drive for games.
Working well so far as cache drives in my server.
Great product, great service
I've used Micron/Crucial products for many years; it is a reliable brand offering well-built products, priced reasonably. While I've only a few years' experience with B&H, offerings and response have always been superb.
When 500 GB just isn't enough
In this day and age, why do PC makers still install just a 500 GB disk? After a while that little disk will fill up with a little bit of everything. The solution is to get a bigger disk. In this cast a 1 TB SSD is a good solution. Crucial offers a solution for cloning the old disk to the new one. It just takes a short time clone the disk, and a few more minutes to swap out the drives.
