LanParte LS15 Overview
LanParte LS15 Reviews
Pretty good with some some flaws
I bought this elsewhere since no returns or prior reviews currently available on B&H--posting this review to help others interested. This is for the standard narrow-spaced 15mm rods. It is actually a mostly good product, but has a some flaws. The bad: -the lock lever hits the locking screw near it, preventing a full turn without repositioning the locking lever. I solved this by grinding off part of the lever & polishing off the rough edges I created. -the little locking lever bears down onto a thin washer which is slightly too wide diameter to fit into a shallow recessed channel. Thus, the washer flexes requiring extra turning to fully tighten. This extra turning is inconvenient when clearance is small under the lens that is supported. -the 1/4 inch screw goes through an aluminum sleeve, which with somewhat loose tolerances may provide less firm resistance to lateral movement of the lens than would a solid post with a 1/4 thread on the end. However when properly screwed into the lens and and all locked, it actually seems sturdy enough. -the two supplied 1/4 inch screws give some flexibility but may not cover all situations. -a bit excessive play in the lock lever--it moves at least 1/8 inch either way before tightening or loosening. Makes me wonder if the play could eventually lead to internal stripping of the aluminum lever if over tightened. Yet it currently handles a firm locking without appearing to be in imminent danger of rounding of the square edges inside the lever. The good: -Costs less than some similar competing parts. -Very lightweight but fairly sturdy aluminum with some stainless steel parts. -quick release, yet locks securely onto the rods. In summary, I don't regret the purchase--it works well enough for my application. If I were putting it out for heavy rental use, I would consider paying double to get an Arri product that is even more resistant to getting abused and broken and shouldn't require using grinder for better clearance. I'm just using it to secure a Sony 11-110 on a Sony Fs7 while using a follow focus. I would feel ok using it for heavier lenses that would work in the realm of narrow-space 15mm rods.
