Lenovo Flex 5 overview

  • 1Description

The 14" Flex 5 Multi-Touch 2-in-1 Notebook from Lenovo is a well-rounded system designed for everyday uses such as browsing the Internet, streaming movies and TV shows, creating and editing documents, and video chatting with friends. Thanks to its 2-in-1 design, you can easily flip it from laptop mode to tablet or tent mode to fit your current application. Powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5-8250U dual-core processor and 8GB of DDR4 RAM, it can efficiently multitask and quickly access frequently used files and programs. When handling a heftier workload, the CPU can reach a core clock speed of 3.4 GHz thanks to Intel Turbo Boost technology.

Its 14" display features a 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution and is built with an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel, which offers vivid colors and wide viewing angles. It also supports touch input, so you can utilize touch gestures and commands within Windows 10 to enhance its accessibility and efficiency. Aside from inputting commands via fingers, an active stylus is included for writing notes and drawing sketches. Graphical processing is driven by an NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics card, and it has an HDMI port that allows you to connect an additional display for enhanced multitasking or larger viewing.

For storing your music, photos, videos, and more, it's equipped with a 256GB PCIe solid-state drive. Should you need more room, you can connect external storage solutions using its multiple USB ports, as well as its 4-in-1 media card reader, which can also be used to quickly transfer files from mobile devices. Other integrated features include 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, a webcam, microphones, speakers, a fingerprint reader, and a 3.5mm mic and headphone combo jack. The operating system installed is Windows 10 Home.

Windows 10

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

    Lenovo Flex 5 reviews

    14" Flex 5 Multi-Touch 2-in-1 Notebook is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 133.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great laptop I have had this for a month and am very happy. I love that it has an SSD drive and a 1TB hard drive. I wish the SSD had been 256GB instead of 128GB but it is working out fine. I just install most programs to the D: drive. I edit some video which is why I needed a faster PC. My five year old PC could not handle 4K and barely managed HD. 14" is the perfect size for me. Not too big and heavy, but big enough to view everything easily. My only complaint would be that the speakers are on the bottom and so they don't have the best sound. If I flipped it to the tent position to watch a video I am sure it would sound better but that is just not how I use it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Could have been perfect... I got a Flex-5 1470 a week ago and it was beyond my expectations... until I tried to get video working on the USB-C. When I finally found the data-only reference in the User Guide, I thought "you must be kidding me?!" If it says USB-C, I assume it's all of USB-C. It should have an asterisk next to USB-C support on the specs. Overall, I still like it but I'm also a little disappointed. For an additional 25 cents (4 more pins), this thing could have been perfect... and a SurfaceBook-killer.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good for what it is but lacking few key features I purchased this laptop to replace a ThinkPad I use for work. I run 2 external monitors typically and figured I could do the same with the flex 5. Sadly this is not the case. What they fail to mention in any of the specs is that the usb-c port only supports data. This means the onthe video out is he single hdmi output. This makes zero sense since the upgraded HD video card supports 3 monitors but can't run them as there is no port on the laptop to support. I had to buy a usb3.0 docking station to get this to work which was another $200. Had I know that, had they disclosed that, I would have spent the day extra $200 to get a better model that did support dual Monitors. Also I got the SSD which comes in pcie format which leaves another hard drive bay empty. My plan an was to add a second ssd and run them in raid 0. Unfortunately this also cannot be done and the bios does not support raid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love it! After researching several laptops, I decided on this one it stands out with it's features and reasonable price.I have had this laptop for a little over a month now and I absolutely love it. I use it daily for work, the battery holds up well, the touch screen is fast and accurate, the back-lit keyboard is quite handy and I love the sleek professional appearance. I am very satisfied with this purchase and would highly recommend it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good features, big memory and reliable I bought this laptop a month and a half ago and it is performing as expected. The backdrop for me is the charger. The charger that came with the computer is very short and moreover the heavier part of the charger is plug very close to the wall. it keeps slipping out of the wall most of the time. Any little movement will remove the charger especially if the outlet is not too tight. In other to solve that problem, I had to buy a charger that is longer and the heavier part is in the middle. Next time please let the consumer have the various options. Attached is the charger I bought after I received the laptop on the left and the one on the right is the original charger that came with the laptop. The overall performance is very good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice laptop! Highly recommend this laptop. Like the size and weight. So far no issues. But also bought the service plan just in case.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality I bought this machine in September as a replacement for a Lenovo Flex 3 that had a bad motherboard (that machine was less than a year old). Initially this Flex 5 machine worked great. Unfortuantely, over the past few weeks, the machine becomes unusable due to black lines appearing on the screen - Outlook will not render, properly, web sites will not render properly, Excel spreadsheets will not render properly. Highly disappointing. Bought this machine from a Microsoft retail store and will be returning and exchanging for another machine. I have used Lenovo machines for all of my professional career without issue - enterprise machines and always of high quality. I am disappointed in the lack of quality/reliability/stability of the two "consumer" machines (Flex 3 and Flex 5) machines I have purchased. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
