Small and cheap yes Size is great for travel ! But fantastic for holding an off camera flash unit or small lighting. Unit. Indoors or out. I'm a buyer.

The two key points to remember about this tripod is the cost, $30 and the weight, less than a pound. Is it cheap and flimsy, of course, what do you expect for $30. Does it work, yes! I am too old and decrepit to carry around my SLR gear, so I switched to a point and shoot, a Canon G1X II. But I needed a full length tripod that is very light. The Sunpak fills the bill. Works great for a point and shoot, will not work for anything heavier. Would I buy it again, Yes!

Does the head have any sort of locking/tightening mechanism for holding the camera in its position?

The Sunpak 4200XL Tripod with 3-Way Panhead has a twist lock on the head to keep the position of the head in place, so the camera does not move.
