VocoPro DIGITAL-32-ULTRA Reviews

Sound quality OK but underlying RF noise compared to others

I've owned Sennheiser EW and XSW series, AKG WMS, have used Shures, and also own other Vocopro units, so those are my comparison points for this review. I purchased these expecting that they perform like other Vocopro units I've owned (namely the UHF 18 and its related family of Mics). Certainly did not expect them to perform like my Sennheisers; intended use was as "pass around" mics at parties/events where guests may not necessarily be particularly careful with them. The sound quality itself is the same, and has similar tone, to the UHF 18 series. Sound profile leans very warm and accentuates lower tones. Not necessarily my preference, but also not a dealbreaker for my needs. The killer for me was audible RF noise artifacts that I don't experience with the UHF 18 units. It's possible that the RF noise is coming from equipment that I use, however all of my other wireless gear works nice with each other (Sennheiser, UHF 18s, AKGs all operating simultaneously) with no audible RF artifacts. The RF noise varied depending on positioning of mic relative to receiver, but was always there. Otherwise, they perform like other vocopro units- your mileage may vary, or depending on what type of gain levels and environment you're using them in, the noise may not matter. Other info not posted since these seem to be new: Both the mics and body packs run off of AA batteries. The antennae are removable, but are not BNC, and are a screw connector that is otherwise about the same size as a BNC. The outputs are mic level, NOT line level, even the mixed unbalanced output. There are balanced outputs for each mic, or a mixed unbalanced output. (I experienced the noise issue on all outputs.) All in all- it's priced reasonably for what it is, but the RF noise did not fit with my needs. It may be acceptable for other uses.
