I've been using LaCie external hard drives for many years and I've only had a problem with one of them, and that was when I made a huge mistake and purchased from Amazon instead of B&H. I won't make that mistake again!

Solid & Secure

I bought this drive to replace another that appeared to be failing. The LaCie drive is solid enough and looks able to take a misstep. However, it is the performance that I am most impressed with. It works seamlessly with Lightroom both in transferring data from my memory card and in working on the images. Very pleased with the purchase and a big shout out to B&H for taking such good care of its customers.

Sturdy drive, a tad bit slow but worth the price

Using it currently to backup my macbook pro. You need to remember to flash it for encrypted APFS, but other than that it works perfectly as intended. It's fast enough for backups, maybe a tad bit slow for large sized media transfers. For 5TB you can't find a better / safer deal. Customer service is to die for.

Which would be the best match for a macBook pro macOS 10.14.6? I want to move my photo catalog to an external drive.
Asked by: Susan
I use the LaCie 5TB Rugged for LR. I have both the LR catalog and the photos on the drive. It makes it easy to access my photos from any of my MAC computers with LR installed. MacBook when traveling and iMac at home. I also regularly backup the LR catalog and photos so a dedicated backup drive. I have not noticed any speed issues with the 5TB Rugged. Its a trusted workhorse in my book!
