Godox TT600 Reviews

Great Flash at a Great Price

The TT600 is pretty good, especially at its low price. I got it to primarily be used off camera with the Godox X2 Trigger. I used it for food and portraits. I haven't had any issues with reliability. It can be used on camera manually and can be bounced in nearly any direction. The blinking red light can be annoying since it is rather bright. I put a piece of electrical tape over it. This may cause an issue for the AF assist but, it's not an issue when used off camera. I believe the light is meant to show the flash is slave mode. It feels a little redundant with the "S" on the bottom of the LCD. Overall, I would recommend it.

Okay, but one really irritating feature

This inexpensive flash was the first on camera flash of its type that I ever bought about three years ago. This review comes a little late, but I want everyone to know about a rather distracting feature that would have made me buy something else had I been aware of it. First, it worked well enough on camera, but when I started using it off camera, I found it had a distracting feature that made me eventually replace it with something better. When it is in wireless slave mode the focus assist light blinks on and off all the time, and it cannot be turned off nor can the firmware be updated. In searching for an explanation I was told that this is to indicate that it is in slave mode, but when you have a couple of these in a studio setup constantly blinking it is an irritating distraction, When I set it to slave mode I do not need a bright red constantly blinking light to remind me. My solution was to cover it with gaffer tape. Hence, I cannot recommend this flash if you plan to use it off camera in a wireless mode despite its low price.

I wasn't sure whether to get the TTL or not. But this was my first flash attachment so I went with the lower cost not TTL. But it is so easy to use, I am glad I chose it. I mostly use it for bounce flash and it does a great job.

Fantastic Value

I have used a Neewer NW561 and TT560 which used to be about 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of this flash. Now they're more! This flash seems to be much more powerful. I'm using it with a custom diffuser for macro and the output is way better. I'm using it at lower settings which allows for way faster recycling when I'm doing focus stacks. I plan to get the transmitter soon so I can use it off camera with my other diffuser. Alan Walls used it, so I should have known it was a great product.

Recycle

Recycle time is very fast, much faster than my Nikon 800 flash.

Solid beginner on-camera flash

This is fine for what I need (primarily wedding/indoor event photography). Lacks some key features of its higher-priced competitors, but it's a solid price for an entry-level flash.

When mounted on a Sony camera, what does the TT600S do that the TT600 (which does not have dedicated Sony shoe) can't do? I can't find any difference in the user manuals.
Asked by: Kenneth
Modern Sony cameras use a slightly different shoe than most other cameras. Getting the Godox TT600 Thinklite Flash for Sony Cameras insures that the flash properly lines up with the Sony shoe and fires properly.

Is this unit compatible with the Godox 350TTS as a wireless pair?
Asked by: Luis Jose
Yes. As both the Godox TT350S Mini Thinklite TTL Flash for Sony Cameras and the Godox TT600 Thinklite Flash for Sony Cameras have the same built-in 2.4GHz X wireless radio system, and as both flashes may be used either as a wireless master or slave flash, yes, they may be used together for your usage needs. One may be used on the camera's hot shoe as a master flash to wirelessy trigger the off-camera flash in slave mode. Otherwise, you may purchase a wireless transmitter such as the Godox XProS TTL Wireless Flash Trigger for Sony Cameras, B&H # GOXPROS, or the Godox X2 2.4 GHz TTL Wireless Flash Trigger for Sony, B&H # GOX2TS, to trigger both flashes wirelessly while off-camera.

In order to trigger the Godox TT600 from the Sony a6000, you would need the Godox X2 2.4 GHz TTL Wireless Flash Trigger for Sony, BH # GOX2TS which can be set to manual mode. https://bhpho.to/3Q5K3ag

Unfortunately, the A390 uses the older style ADI/P-TTL hot shoe which is not compatible with this flash's Sony MI shoe. You'll need an adapter to use this flash on your A390. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/913655-REG/sony_adpama_shoe_adapter.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1166109-REG/vello_hsa_csasm_sony_to_minolta.html

question

Does the TT600S communicate & work with the TT685S in TTL (since the 600s doesnt have TTL & the 685s does)?
Asked by: Tom B.
The flash can do HSS, but is only manual. You can use it for a background light at a fixed power while using a TT685 for TTL in the foreground.
