Samsung Notebook 9 Overview

  • 1Description

The 15" Laptop 9 from Samsung is a thin and light system designed for the on-the-go user. It features a 15" 1920 x 1080 display, driven by an NVIDIA GeForce MX150, and has a 350 nit brightness rating with a peak of 500 for outdoor use. Moreover, it can recline to 180° so you can easily share what's on your screen. Specs-wise, it's powered by a 1.8 GHz Intel Core i7-8550U quad-core processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 256GB NVMe PCIe SSD. If you need more space, you can connect external storage solutions using its USB ports as well as its microSD card reader. Other integrated features include 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, an HDMI port, a backlit keyboard, a microphone, speakers, and a fingerprint reader. The operating system installed is Windows 10 Home.

Light & Durable
The Laptop 9 features a full metal frame and magnesium alloy construction for durability that's also portable. It weighs just over two pounds and easily fits into your bag or backpack.
Charge On-the-Go
With a USB Type-C port, the Laptop 9 can be charged via a compatible battery pack for convenient power on-the-go.
Vivid Views
Aside from the Full HD resolution, the Laptop 9's display can also reach a 500 nit brightness rating for outdoor use. Moreover, it supports 95% of the sRGB color space and has a deltaE rating of less than 2.5, ideal for color-sensitive work.
A built-in far-field microphone lets the Laptop 9 pick up audio clearly. You can also use the optional Voice Note software to add bookmarks to your audio recordings.
A built-in fingerprint reader lets your quickly, easily, and securely log into your notebook.
The Laptop 9 has a backlit keyboard, which lets you work in challenging environments such as dark or dimly lit settings.
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also transmits data via USB 3.1 at up to 10 Gb/s, and dual-bandwidth DisplayPort 1.2 allows you to connect up to two 4K displays simultaneously. Additionally, you can daisy chain up to six devices from a single Thunderbolt 3 port.

Windows 10 Home

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana, can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the Internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Laptop, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information-gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

Samsung Notebook 9 Reviews

15" Laptop 9 is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 16.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best light performer on market I am very satisfied with performance of the laptop, considering it's weight and power consumption. As a data scientist working remotely on Ubuntu, it's been a pleasant experience being able to take that 15" (not some 13" screened stub) decent-matrix laptop, which is able to hold battery for work day while providing reasonable computational performance (for computationally-heavy tasks) and quickness for casual coding or web-surfing. With a decent powerbank and ability to charge via thunderbolt port (usb-c adapter fits), it's able to withstand any conference / workshop, and it's so light that it doesn't even occur not to take a laptop in my backpack when going out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Laptop After much research, I've decided to buy the 15" Samsung Notebook 9 for my business. This model is fast, super light, and has amazing, crisp resolution. I'm very impressed with the long battery life and security features. It's also nice to sync my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 to my laptop. This is a great laptop for business use. Although this is a pricey laptop, I feel it's still an overall excellent value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Superlight Notebook Although expensive, I really like this notebook. I use it for travel and its lightweight and compact size is perfect. When I travel I use it for photo editing. I have been really pleased with how well the notebook works for that purpose. The only negative so far is that the exterior seems to scratch easily. I take good care of my electronics so I am surprised.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Laptop, needs couple of improvements pros 1) Light! (light weight is why i bought it, i travel a lot) 2) 15 in screen is great 3) screen color accuracy 4) a video card (put a mobile gpu with more power plz) 5) Ram and Cpu (fast) 6) Battery life (thank you) 7) Thin (fits nicely in backpacks) 8) lay flat screen (i use this more than i thought) 9) big track pad 10) screen quality 11) thunderbolt! cons 1) get rid of the barrel charger. (make ever usb-c charger capable) 2) more usb-c 3) speakers. (Hardly audible, cant even watch movie with friend) 4) too easy to show scratches and wear on body 5) keyboard. too mushy. cant type fast 6) offer a dark color (like charcoal or black) 7) screen resolution (something higher than 1080 would be nice) 8) bezels (we can do better, Get rid of the Jezebels) 9) storage, (512 should be standard) 10) keyboard color (green? i never turn it on because of this, make it white next time) 11) charger (put a cord on the other side of the brick, you know how hard it is to travel and use adapters with a giant brink to put in the wall) keep the 15in laptop under around 1 kg 2.2isb lbs and ill keep buying them

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best performer on the market! I'm a college student, manage a business, and do graphic design on the side. This computer handles it all with ease. I wish it had a bigger hard drive (only 256gb) but other than that its an amzing performer. Plus if you own other Samsung products it can sync them all to the laptop.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A great laptop, but... It is a great laptop but I am not pleased with the heat management, I can't even comfortably use it on my lap, it even made me think that the laptop never had a fan, PLEASE, do well to release a software update that will increase the fan speed. I also felt that the speakers could use a lot more oomph and a better positioning.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Thin, lightweight, powerful NON-touchscreen ultrabook I like touchscreen interfaces on my phone or tablet, but having a touchscreen PC has hurt more than helped when my pinky finger has brushed the screen causing an inadvertent change of typing focus. So its nice to find a premium ultrabook without a touchscreen. This 15-inch notebook is smaller and half as heavy as the 15-inch Samsung ATIV Book 9 it replaces, has twice the RAM and better CPU. The 256GB SSD is a bit small for the price, but I put all my photos/music on a separate 128GB SD card that will stay permanently in the SD slot to keep the SSD free for work files. Very quiet - I have yet to cause the fan to run. It takes the same power adapter as other Samsung notebooks but needs a 65W adapter (vs 40) so I will need to replace my travel and backup adapters.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Laptop An amazing laptop that I ever bought in 5 years. It is light. the charger is small. It has 16GB RAM and a graphics card. FHD is what I wanted at first place. Windows just not look good in 4K displays, that is why I prefer FHD. Slim chassis. I do not understand how come such a good product is not popular.
