APC Back-UPS Pro BR 1500VA overview

  • 1Description

Safely shut down computer systems and guard connected equipment from surges with the Back-UPS Pro BR 1500VA Battery Backup & Surge Protector from APC. The UPS is armed with a total of ten NEMA 5-15R outlets, with six providing surge and backup power and four designed for surge protection only. In the event of a power outage, the UPS comes equipped with an internal battery that delivers up to 900W of power. The battery-powered outlets provide up to 5.4 minutes of use at full load and over 120 minutes at 50W. For electrical spikes, the UPS has a 1080-joule surge energy rating. Other notable connections include coax, USB, and Ethernet ports for safeguarding video and network signals. Included along with the backup UPS is the downloadable PowerChute software program to monitor energy usage and prevent data corruption by automatically saving files and shutting down a computer system.

  • Warns when a battery is not available to provide backup power.
  • Use your PC to access additional power protection and management features for your UPS via a USB Port.
  • Provides key UPS status at a glance. Multiple status indicators with load and battery bar graphs.
  • Provides notification of changing utility power and UPS power conditions.
  • Ensures the product has been tested and approved to work safely with the connected service provider equipment and within the specified environment.

  • Provides early-warning fault analysis on batteries enabling timely preventive maintenance.
  • Provides temporary battery power when the utility power is out.
  • Periodic battery self-test ensures early detection of a battery that needs to be replaced.
  • Protect equipment with input transformer blocks without blocking access to other receptacles.
  • Gives higher application availability by correcting low and high voltage conditions without using the battery (not available on all models).
  • Energy saving feature automatically power off peripherals when a master device, usually a PC, hibernates or is shut down. Power to peripherals is immediately restored when the master device wakes up or is switched on.
  • Adjust the voltage points (widen or tighten the range) where your UPS transfers to battery to maximize useful battery life and protect sensitive electronics.
  • Patent-pending operating mode that bypasses unused electrical components in good power conditions to achieve very high operating efficiency without sacrificing any protection.
  • Increases UPS availability by allowing quick, easy battery replacement.
  • Easy recovery from overloads; no need to replace a fuse.

APC Back-UPS Pro BR 1500VA reviews

Back-UPS Pro BR 1500VA Battery Backup & Surge Protector is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from This thing chirps like a baby bird I recently purchased this battery backup due to price and features. The unit does everything I want it to but has a couple issues. First, when the display is on, is has a high pitched hum that it give out for the duration the screen is on. I have had other items with similar screens do the same thing. This is not such a big deal as the screen is only on when you push the menu button. As soon as the screen goes off, so does the humming sound. The more annoying issue this unit has is the high pitched chirp it gives out every 5 to 10 seconds. No matter what load is being run through the unit, it gives out a chirp. With it sitting on the desk it is very distracting. I read other reviews that stated they had the same issue but I saw where they were supposed to have fixed the issue. They obviously have not. Other than the two mentioned issues, this is a great back up with good features. Maybe a firmware update could fix the sound issues some day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from what an upgrade! Suits my need perfectly. I updated from a surge protection only device. I running an I Mac 27 with El Capitan 10.11.5, Nighthawk AC1900 router/modem, WD EX2100 NAS, HP OfficeJet 8630 Pro and a LiftMaster internet connection kit. This leaves one free slot which I use for video conversions. As stated by others the suggested software doesn't work with my Mac. Following the advice of others I attached the data cable to the Mac, went to system preferences -Energy Savings and the UPS panel shows up. I set mine to display at the top of my screen so I'm aware of battery percentage at all time. We've had two extended blackouts. The unit performed as expected no issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dell monitors need the Sinewave I had to buy it after two other APC failed. I talked with a technician from APC that told me that Dell monitors need the Sinewave. Until now the product seems to work perfectly. For the noise one review was talking about, I cannot hear them at all when my computer is on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly as advertised and what I need Nice compact unit. Controls and features are laid out well. Bought this to give me as much backup time as possible for my internet modem and VOIP phone during a power outage. When the power is out, I am only concerned about having a phone for emergencies for as long as possible. This unit should give me a minimum of 3 hours and probably 8+ hours. Won't know for sure until we have a power outage and that is my only hesitation to give it five stars - it hasn't been tested yet. But I have prior experience with APC Backups and they work great.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Yes, it chirps. I recently purchased this unit, having had great experiences with apc back-ups in the past. I read loads of reviews that spoke of an annoying noise, one of which somehow came to the conclusion that unit numbers starting with 3B1 are the squeakers. Sure enough, mine is a 3B1 and it does emit a chirp or squeak, approximately every 3 or 4 seconds. Having said that, it's really not so obnoxious that it deprives me of the ability to stay focused on what I'm doing. In fact, I hardly even notice it most of the time. It's very quiet and only penetrates my consciousness occasionally, and only when the room is dead silent. Otherwise, I have nothing to say about it, except that it just works. Hopefully it will do that for a good long time, like my last unit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Should give it zero stars I should have read reviews on other sites that raised the issue of a high frequency chirp/squeak. Hiding it behind a desk does not help. I also made the mistake of throwing away the original packaging (I had every intention of keeping it) which means I can only replace the item, but the replacement exhibited the same issue. I'm now stuck with a frustrating piece of equipment and need to use my noise cancelling headphones every time I'm on my PC.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Chirping is real and APC's upgrade service is broken I too am encountering the chirp several times a minute, while the unit is on. Even placing it far away from my desk on a carpeted floor is not enough to diminish it significantly. I bought this unit because my existing APC UPS died and this was a close match in terms of specs. Unfortunately APC's buyback program offer was still more expensive than just buying it from B&H, so that's a bit of a fail in terms of e-waste recapture.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The UPS chirp is real! This seems to be the perfect UPS for my needs, good capacity, very good run-time, and good design (it is even smaller than the old unit it replaced) plus it is a true sinewave unit! The only issue I have encountered with the unit is a high pitch squeak/chirp every 4-5 seconds from the unit. It didn't matter if the unit was in silent mode or not, it was always squeaking. After reading other reviews on this unit, it turns out that this seems to be a known issue on older models that are still around. Turns out this unit was built back in November of 2017, and just ordered in September of 2018. I was able to call APC technical support and get a replacement unit without any issue. The UPS is now quiet while charged and no longer squeaking. This is a great UPS, just watch out for the build date on the testing paper included with the unit (The squeak/chirp doesn't start until the unit is fully charged).
