Will this work with a USB-c male to USB 3.0 male cable plugged into a usb 3 port? If so, what transfer speed could I expect?
This Atech Flash Technology Blackjet VX-1C CFast 2.0 USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C Card Reader has data transfer speeds up to 525 MB/s with its default configuration and hardware--including a USB-C version 3.1 cable. Using other hardware will change this potential transfer speed if the cable cannot keep up with the reader. Whatever speed your cable is rated at would become the weakest link and determine what speed the rest of the equipment can function at. Using an alternative USB 3.0 cable can potentially provide up to 640MBps transfer speeds so it likely would not hinder this card reader in any way like the included USB-C 3.1 cable.

Is there an adapter so I can use it with Thunderbolt 2?
Certainly that adapter exists, but it doesnt come with this reader.
