APC 1500VA Reviews

Capable, yes, but this is a stripped-down model & Smart Connect is NOT FREE

I think this UPS will work out OK for us, but before you buy it be aware: * There is NO separate Surge/Battery Backup & Surge Only distinction. ALL the outlets are battery backup whether you want it or not. (Example: Our printer makes the UPS scream every time we fire it up because if we were on battery power it wouldn't be able to cope. Duh. That's why we never plugged it into the battery side of the old UPS) * The rigamarole required to get the unit on Smart Connect is onerous (for instance, you may have to invent a business because Business Name is required) and for any of the features you'd expect of networked administration, you have to SUBSCRIBE. * Only after you subscribe & have handed over the credit card info do you find out that, no, you cannot divvy up the ports to be UPS/non-UPS. You can name the one panel of ports that is there, but beyond that you just paid a bunch of $$$ for nothing. In the final analysis, this all may be fine with you. It appears to be a decent-capacity UPS and will do the job if that's all you need. If you need other features that you're accustomed to (well, I am anyway), this will disappoint you -- especially if like me you end up trying to cancel the subscription & get your money back without outright disputing the charge with your bank. Hope this helps.

Seems OK, just like the one I bought over 10 years ago...

Worked fine out of the box, needed some isopropyl alcohol to remove large silver sticker covering the top of the unit. This UPS will give me about 20 minutes to shut down in the event of a power failure. SmartConnect worked without problem to register, but in my case I can't leave a 20 foot cable plugged in; this computer is far from the router so it is setup for WiFi. The PowerChute Serial Shutdown software couldn't locate the USP when connected by USB cable to my desktop computer, but in my case I can do without the programed shutdown feature.

Yes, it will still function. The SmartConnect feature of the APC Smart-UPS C Battery Backup & Surge Protector with SmartConnect is built into the UPS itself and is not limited by the duration of the warranty.

What exactly does this unit provide? Power up computers? Phone?
Asked by: Kate
Thank you for your interest in our products. This unit would provide a battery backup during a power outage. For example if you had a small power outage your equipment would stay on till the battery depletes. Usually computers are connected to it but you could connect a phone to it. You would just want to stay under 900 watts so the UPS doesn't become overloaded.
