DJI Mavic Air overview

  • 1Description

Capture all your adventures in stunning detail with the Mavic Air Fly More Combo from DJI. This foldable, pocket-portable drone was designed with travelers and outdoor enthusiasts in mind. It features a 3-axis gimbal-stabilized camera with a 1.2/3" CMOS sensor that shoots 12MP stills and is capable of capturing 4K video at 30 fps that it can transfer at speeds up to 100 Mb/s or store on its 8GB of internal storage.

In terms of performance, the Mavic Air offers multiple flight modes, can reach a top speed of up to 43 mph, and offers a max flight time of up to 21 minutes. For safety and security, the Mavic Air uses an advanced flight control system that draws on several sophisticated technologies, including Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO) and Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS), to locate itself in 3D space, detect objects, and avoid collisions.

The Mavic Air works in tandem with DJI's GO 4 mobile app for accessing settings, getting a telemetry readout, viewing a low-latency video feed, as well as more advanced features, such as accessing QuickShots, ActiveTrack, and more. In addition to traditional joystick style controls, you can fly the Mavic with simple tap-based commands or using specific hand gestures.

3-Axis Gimbal Camera
The portable Mavic Air houses a 3-axis mechanical gimbal with an angular vibration range reduced to 0.005° and is equipped with dampeners that help ensure steady shooting
4K Video at 100 Mb/s
The Mavic Air can shoot 4K video at 30 fps and record footage at 100 Mb/s
Advanced Onboard Camera
The Mavic Air's onboard camera integrates a 1/2.3" 12MP CMOS sensor and an f/2.8 lens with a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 24mm to shoot high-quality photos and videos
32 MP Sphere Panoramas
In addition to horizontal, vertical, and 180° panoramas, the Mavic Air can stitch 25 photos together in eight seconds to create clear 32MP spherical panoramas
Slow-Motion Video
With support for recording 1080p 120 fps slow-motion video, the Mavic Air can capture even your most high-speed adventure
Improved HDR Photos
New HDR algorithms help you obtain the right exposure settings intelligently, based on lighting conditions
8GB Internal Storage
In addition to an integrated microSD card slot, the Mavic Air comes with 8GB of internal storage so you can save photos and videos directly to the aircraft

    DJI Mavic Air reviews

Mavic Air (Flame Red) is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 13.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy pilot It's amazing what they've crammed into such a small package. There are tons of reviews out there on why this is such an awesome drone so I'll just add that I agree with the reviews that speak highly of it. I've had it for a few weeks and flown a dozen or so times. Before you buy, make sure you're not in a DJI red geofence area. has the map where you can check. If you're in a red zone, you won't be able to fly around your own place. I'm in a yellow so I need to authorize my flights every time but it's not too big a hassle. Pictures of sunsets from 300 feet are worth it. So is being able to check the shingles on my roof and the gutters, :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fun! I am very new to quad copters. Started out playing with my kids parrot mini-drones and decided to get daddy his own toy. Based on reading and my limited experience, this drone represents a cross over from kids toy to something more sophisticated. More experienced folks can speak to its usefulness for serious aerial videography. For my part, I found the mavic air very easy to fly, out of the box. Its control software can seem a bit intimidating at first. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS, and you will be all right. Camera quality is very impressive for something so small. I doubt I will ever tax its capabilities for my purposes. a lot of fun to fly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This little guy is great! This is one impressive aircraft. I have been using a Phantom 3 4k since it was released and I have always been pleased with its results. Then I purchased this drone for the sake of portability (which it succeeds at in spades!) and it surprised me in every other feature as well. My first order of this aircraft came with a few hiccups (main controller failure). After a painless exchange, thanks to B&H, the new one arrived and is working perfectly. The aircraft folds up tightly and is easily carried in my book bag or camera bag. It even comes with a decent protective case for the aircraft. But portability doesn’t end with the aircraft. The remote for this aircraft not only folds up tightly, but the control sticks can be unscrewed and stowed safely inside the remote. Setting up for launch seems faster with this aircraft than with the Phantom 3. And upon launch, it seems far more stable hovering then with my previous aircraft. My test flights took place on an abnormally windy week (approx. 10-15mph) but that doesn’t show on any of its footage. Controls seem a little smoother as well with less jerkiness than with P3. Add to that ‘tripod’ and ‘cinematic’ mode and with a little practice it shouldn’t be difficult to achieve some great videos. And the 'Active Track' option was a godsend on a recent video job. Obstacle Avoidance sensors seems to do a good job of alerting and avoiding possible collisions. This is a feature I’m being introduced to for the first time but thus far I’m pleased with it. The only real caveat is that there isn’t a dial for exposure/ISO like there is in the P3 and P4. While I can easily get to that setting on the phone app, having that dial was so convenient. I expect I’ll get used to it after awhile. Another note of importance is that it takes a little longer to descend then my Phantom. Just another thing to adapt to. I originally purchased this drone to take on an upcoming vacation. I thought I'd be sacrificing camera quality for portability. But after a week of flying the Mavic Air, including taking it on two jobs, I have decided to make this my go to aircraft.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A little beast of a drone I have really enjoyed using this drone. The build quality, safety features, image quality make this a must own for hobbyist& professionals alike. I'vecrashed it twice (both times completely my fault) and with a simple propeller change it was up and flying again in no time. If I lost this one, I would buy a new one the next day. That's how much I love this little guy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Absolutely Amazing Excellent video quality, but stills are no where near the Phantom 4 Pro. This drone is fast, handles wind, and is very smooth with the gimbal. I don't like the type C ports, I wish it was standard USB. It comes with a tiny adapter to do updates that you can loose, I can find no replacement for purchase. Never the less, this is nothing short of a technological masterpiece!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dope Drone for the price and great for travel We've put off purchasing a drone for our shoots because of price, size, and legality. The drone and case are small enough to fit into any gear situation. Great starter drone for someone looking to add an extra level of production quality to their shoots.
