The Ibanez SR Workshop Series SRMS805 is a five-string electric bass guitar featuring a poplar burl top, a walnut and maple body, a double-cutaway design, and a brown topaz burst finish. It sports a five-piece, bolt-on walnut/jatoba neck with a bound panga panga fingerboard, 24 medium frets, and a scale measuring 34.0 to 35.5". This multi-scale design accommodates the different hand positions bassists naturally assume when moving around the neck, resulting in a more comfortable experience. It also helps to engender a more open and alive tone from the instrument.
For electronics, this bass offers two dual-coil Bartolini BH2 pickups, which allow for a wide and balanced frequency range with tight lows, punchy mids, and smooth highs. The pickups are passive, but the bass boasts an active EQ section with a bypass switch and a three-way mid-frequency selector. You'll find controls for treble, mid, and bass boost/cut, as well as volume and balance. Strings are affixed to the body by means of a fixed MR5S bridge.
- Equalized tension helps to create a more "alive," open tone. But the design also improves player comfort. The slant of the fanned frets ergonomically coordinates with the way a player's hand angles as it moves up and down the neck, facilitating quick, comfortable playing action
- The custom 3-band EQ with an EQ bypass switch and mid-frequency switch provide precise tonal control, including a switch to choose passive-only operation. When the EQ bypass is activated, the treble tone-control knob becomes the global tone control for the passive circuit
- The fixed MR5S bridge facilitates string isolation, as each bridge is independently and securely locked down to the body for maximum vibration transfer without interference. The bridge provides a string spacing of 16.5mm
- The Bartolini BH2 pickups provide a tight bottom-end, punchy midrange, and smooth response. Coils with lower resonant frequency provide tighter bottom end and a fuller midrange. The dual-coil style configuration maximizes articulation and a long blade pole piece widens the magnetic field, providing balanced string-to-string pickup response
