No, it does hold the weight. A real disappointment

The strap does not run all the way through the shoulder pad. It is sewn at each end.

The tap on the lens is a 1/4-20, you can in fact screw this into the bottom of the foot on the Canon 100-400mm lens. If you need to have the strap screwed into the foot and don't want to have to take it off every time you put it onto a tripod, you could use something along the lines of this, KIKLP450V2, where you would screw this plate onto the bottom of the collar on your 100-400, screw the Black Rapids plate into the 1/4-20 on the plate near the back which would leave the front of the plate open to be mounted on a tripod.

Yes, the straps are adjustable. Im 6 and the two straps that connect to the pad that hangs on my L shoulder are all the way out which allows the camera to hang at my right hip. There is plenty of room to shorten the straps so that your camera will hang next to your hip & near your (presumably) R hand so you can quickly lift the camera for a quick shot. Theres a hand strap that also comes w/ this that connects to the R strap attachment on the camera and then to the secure coupler that screws into the tripod threads on the bottom of the camera. This protects the camera from falling to the ground in the unlikely event that the threaded ring attached to the coupler should work its way loose from the camera body. The design of this strap is well thought out & if youre hiking you can cinch down the camera w/ sliding stays on the camera strap to minimize, but not eliminate, your camera moving around as you hike/walk. Ive been very pleased with this strap thus far & used it last week on a couple of nature hikes in this SF Bay area & was pleased w/ its function, especially compared to an around the neck strap where your camera is flopping around on your chest.
