Styled in a matte gray finish, and presented here in a matched-pair set, the Schoeps MK 4 is a cardioid condenser microphone capsule designed to deliver minimal coloration and accurate capture of sound. Because of its natural response, it is preferred by recording engineers who work with opera singers and other classical genres. This capsule is fashioned in such a way as to attenuate the proximity effect to a moderate degree.
Paired with the CMC 6 or CMR, the capsule gives you a 40 Hz to 26 kHz frequency response, but this extends all the way to 41 kHz when you pair the capsule with the CMC 6xt. The mic is known for its flat, colorless, and transparent reproduction as well as its consistent on/off-axis response, and its ability to reproduce the sound you hear with your ears.
